A question, if I pause my 500 MB per month mobile data, will I still be getting and able to use the 500 MB data which I'm getting per month with Afrihost plus?

As long as Afrihost Plus+ stays active and you have the 500MB free Mobile data allocated to your number is should still work.
If you do pause, you'll only be pausing your monthly data links.

My turn for a question...

I've just started the port for my spare cell number to MTN Pre-Paid and want to put it on Afrihost Mobile Pre-Paid but I'm concerned that in the past MTN have turned off SIM's with active Afrihost data as they are unaware that they are still in use. Apart from making a call every 60 days or so, how can one assume that the brain dead MTN do not kill an otherwise active SIM card?

We do our best to ensure that something like this doesn't happen :)

I currently have no connection.
I've set my phone APN to mymtn and I've got a connection again.
Anyone else having issues?

AfriReps, if i want to sign up the missus to say the xs mobile package, can she use her existing sim and number?

OK coolios, then it'll be ready to port over to us :)

btw, if i do the month to month data option. Why would you guys have AfriPlus in there, and have it more expensive than the next package? Eg 1GB is R58, and if you include AfriPlus at R99 to double your data, its R157. However, a 2GB bundle on its own is R99. Can you guys look into that please? :)

Those are standard packages though, Afrihost Plus+ is a VAS.

yeh i know A+ is a value added service, but i was just pointing out that perhaps you guys should re look at that, as it doesnt make sense to have it, if the price will be higher than the next package standard pricing.

think of this as me being in a board room meeting with the Afrihost guys discussing ways forward :D

You can't really compare a value add to pricing on standard products though. Afrihost Plus+ brings a bunch of benefits that aren't product specific, like Simfy for example.

AfriGuy, please can you assist me with porting from Vodacom to MTN. I have a Vodacom prepaid sim and have purchased (and RICA'd) an MTN prepaid sim.

I tried to phone Vodacom on 111, but there is nothing in their menu about porting. Only a sim swap. Is that what I want?

Do I need to phone Vodacom-111 first and then SMS MTN, or can I just SMS MTN?

EDIT: More specifically, I'm porting to Afrihost - you know what I mean!

Hi :)

Not sure it can be automated via their cell centre, you'll probably need to chat to someone in order to get them to allow the opt-in request.

You'll need to follow the steps here http://www.afrihost.com/landing/mobile/porting/?

Thanks. Thing is, their voice prompter says absolutely nothing about talking to an agent or porting. Guess I'll have to pick something like fraud, get directed to the wrong place, and they will hopefully direct me to the right place.

It's almost as if they don't want me to port!

Maybe chat to their guys over on Twitter or Facebook? They seem pretty responsive there :)

Okay, so the port is done.

I phoned Vodacom, who said it had nothing to do with them and I needed to phone MTN. I followed the directions on the back of my MTN sim card package instead, which said to SMS PortMe#SimNumber to an MTN number. Did that, port went fine.

Swapped to the MTN sim when told to do so, and the port was complete. AfriHost maybe update your directions? You don't need to phone Vodacom at all. Maybe only if you are on contract.

I activated my mobile number on the ClientZone, and early this morning received an email saying that my mobile number was now active on AfriHost. I followed the directions to give AfriHost permission to manage my account etc, and also followed the directions to change my APN.

My phone now says it is on MTN. However, data does not work. When I do *141#, I'm told I have no airtime and no data. I do have no airtime, but I should have 500MB of data.

AfriGuy, please can you help. Can send you a PM with my cellphone number if needed.

EDIT: Also, when I go to the AfriHost plus manage benefits section.

I want to have 2 for 1 topups on my phone, but I don't see any mobile packages listed there. Only my DSL package.

Also, the mobile section of Client Zone does have my number correct and it shows that I have 500MB of data.

Oh, and another question while I'm at it. Can I buy MTN airtime to top up? How would I otherwise top up?

EDIT 2: Data is now working after a reboot, but I can't select my mobile package to receive 2 for 1 topups.

Please send me a PM so I can take a look for you.

The way that porting works is that all numbers are released by the current SP to a national porting "authority" and then can be signed out by a new SP. Generally speaking, if the number is not released, the new SP can't do anything with the number :(
