Has anyone else been having issues of no throughput on mobile 3 ? I have a signal strength of 3/5 and then sometimes suddenly there is just no download or upload activity. Not just a latency spike it completely disconnects me from games

Last I applied for ADSL, Telkom claimed they did not have any ports available, a mate of mine who had access to the DSLAM found 8 free ports ... (?) maybe reserved, not working, I dunno ...

My 8ta SIM does not lag nearly as much, but I also have much better signal strength on 8ta ...

If I still cannot get ADSL due to no ports being available, I'll have to look at ways/means to improve my signal strength ...

I know that there are some Huwawei products to boos reception on your MiFi. We don't officially support them, but if it's the same manufacturer, can't imagine that much can go wrong :)

Are you sure that you're losing connectivity completely? Some games will kick you out if your latency is too high so that it doesn't affect the gaming experience for others.

Using mine in a Huawei B683 and a Vodafone K4605 dongle

Connectivity isn't lost the connection stays active but download is 0.00kb/s and upload is 0.00kb's only once I disconnect and reconnect it myself it starts working normally again

After finally getting my sim from MDS (worst courier company I have had to deal with), I am happy to report that my speeds and latencies on Afrihost mobile in Centurion is amazing. Playing online games is a joy. Well done.

Probably a long shot, but am I able to use your mobile data from an 8ta contract phone that currently roams most of the time on the MTN network? Set to roam on MTN and then specify the AH APN :D

If that hasn't been tried yet, do you have a small test account I could use to see if it's an option?

The Afrihost SIM is a Data only SIM, and should work as such in your phone if you thether it to your laptop/computer, but you will not be able to make voice calls using it

I'm not sure if this will work, maybe enquire with your service provider for now? If they allow a non-default APN when you're roaming on the MTN network is may work - but I can't promise anything :)

This test will fail while the number is being provisioned. The APN product can only be loaded on MTN Contract sims.

Interesting that this is an "unknown" officially.

I suspect the provisioning will cause failure, but it'd be good to know for sure...

I used the SAINET APN on an MTN contract SIM a few years ago, which worked well.

Hopefully it works as well for AH APN on MTN now...

We know that some Mobile providers do actually run a portion of their networks on MTN's infrastructure. However, unless you are an MTN contract client, our APN will not work on your SIM - this is how the network is setup. So you might be technically on the MTN network, but if you're not an MTN client - computer says no :)
