Afrihost Mobile Feedback Thread

Afrihost's double data beats Axxess but without the carry over, and even better than Telkom Mobile for data because with Telkom you have to use the extra data after 11pm. So Afrihost better just keep the double data or they will not be competitive.

Can't seem to access a few international sites today...google is also mostly non-responsive. Might not be an afrihost issue though.

Yeah. There seem to be a few glitches in the matrix today. Not dwelling on it though, catching up on today's currie cup action.

Whatsapp actually updated their icon earlier today. Now I'm just waiting to receive the long awaited update from Afrihost :)

For our App? So much else going one here, Apps getting low priority. When we move into our new offices, I think we're planning to get more Dev guys so we can prioritise our Apps :)

It depends on your needs, cos the SIM gets activated immediately and is delivered to you as quickly as possible. The pro-rata will be billed to you within 24 hours or so, depending on your payment method.

Ok, back to this again. I was billed in 24 hours, the debit order went off. I contacted the support department to find out when I will receive the package, but they told me it will take up to 5 days for the money to reflect in Afrihost's account first & only when it does reflect with Afrihost will the package be sent.

This is all for R18.

Seriously... For R18. Could you not implement that a first payment be made via EFT or something to avoid all the schlep?
I understand it will be a non issue when I'm billed monthly and the debit order date is fixed, but this inception amount and the waiting time is really not how to win customer satisfaction.

This exact issue has been raised before by others. I'm surprised that they have still not addressed this. If they know it is going to take 5 days to get the sim delivered, that should be factored into the calculation of the first amount to be paid.

Yes, your app. You commented a few weeks ago that your guys are working hard to incorporate fixes and new functionality into the app. We're looking forward - its a little overdue if you ask me :)

The point is that I have to wait 5 business days for a R18 debit order to reflect with Afrihost. That's not cricket bro, I don't care from which angle you look at it. A company should make it convenient for you to give them your money, this is just turning me into a tense consumer.

Generally this does work well because it's a capped product, you do get all the data you pay for to use. However, ordering one or two days before month end can be a little different because of the month. It's also an additional security feature to wait for payment to reflect, regardless of the amount, because Mobile is a huge area of fraud in South Africa. We have to be extremely careful, not only to protect clients, but also to stay on the right side of regulations so we can continue to offer the service.

You can drop me a PM and I'll be happy to review and give you some feedback on what's happening here :(

Yes, we would like to devote more time to this, but we're working on so many exciting new projects, it's probably been shuffled around a bit. Also moving to new offices is causing delays for us, but I know our dev team are trying to get improvements in wherever they can :(

As I said, we are mostly concerned with security. We have already seen cases where people have ordered multiple (as in tens of orders) Mobile packages to try to resell or manipulate the system. As a rule we can't really overlook the pro-rata amount, no matter how small cos it's how we we validate the banking details and do what we can to prevent fraud.

Ok. You are concerned about Security. BUT. I did not order tens of orders or multiple packages to resell to manipulate the system, did I? No. I bought 1.
So don't criminalize me before I'm even a client. You are able to see from my profile that I created 1 account. Provided 1 address, provided 1 bank account. Provided 1 name. Provided 1 cellphone number to contact me on. Provided 1 bank account to debit from.

Yet I'm a criminal.

Edit: for my own sanity..

Afrihost/Afriman. I'm really not attacking you or trying to be difficult. I'm basically discussing the issues here. Trying to understand your methods and why it sucks so much? This is really one of the weirdest product sign ups, if not the weirdest I've ever had in my life. So please don't take offense at my words. Just see where I am coming from and what I am trying to convey to you as a consumer.

I definitely did not mean to make out that YOU are a criminal. Not at all, and I apologise if that is what it sounded like.

What I was saying is that once we make exceptions like this, we'll have people manipulating the system to defeat the system. We have to design a system that allows as much flexibility as possible but is robust enough to withstand everything that will be thrown at it.

We won't change the system for now, especially with some of the incidents we have already seen. But you are welcome to PM me and I can look at your specific case and we can discuss this further.

PM sent Afriman.

Edit:

Post pm:
Thanks to Afriman for taking up the issue and marking the order as paid. The package can be sent now and I can leave this issue to rest now. I appreciate the fact that Afrihost does not leave questions/issues unanswered and sweeps it under the rug like other companies do. Afriman has answered and dealt with every single point I've raised so far, even my lame jokes, that didn't need a response. That's great customer service.
I hope I can enjoy the product now. Shot :)

Glad to hear that everything is resolved now :)

Ok, how does Afrihost work? I see on their website they have DSL and Mobile and prepaid. I have an MTN LTE SIM at home in an LTE modem (Huawei). Its a small mobile modem, I dont know the name. The problem is that my signal, 3G and 4G is one bar and if Im lucky 2 bars for a few minutes at a time. If I switch over to Afrihost Mobile it looks like they work off the MTN network, so this wont solve my problem, or would it?

We run off the MTN network, so signal coverage is the same.
You can either opt to bolt on an APN to the device if it's a contract SIM or purchase a new SIM with us. Either or, the signal coverage is the same :)

:( All I want to do today is play Robocraft, but Afrihost doesn't allow me to do that. Yesterday it worked fine up to 22:00, but today I couldn't get it working at all. The players just 'hang' as soon as the game starts:
I have a feeling it might have something to do with the upload speed, because the download speed looks awesome:
