We haven't been made aware of any official news around this.

I contacted Simfy Africa to hear what they say. I just moved over to them because of Grooveshark shutting down.

It would be so great if Afrihost can somehow get Spotify for us South African users!

A quick reply by Simfy Africa!

Yes simfy Germany that is closing down.

Simfy Germany and simfy africa are two separate companies and we are certainly going to be around for a very long time.

We assure that no services or options will be reduced for simfy africa.
Thank you very much for the heads up.
If there are any other points that we can assist with or improve on to make your experience of simfy africa more acceptable, please do not hesitate to inform us via mail or by calling us on 086 117 4639.

So luckily Simfy Africa is staying.

I'm getting full 4G signal but the speeds aren't so great :/ Lonehill area. Are the towers congested? Anyone else getting the same experience in this area?

Not great throughput for LTE :(
Have you tried forcing 3G to see if anything improves?

3G is even worse :( 4/5 bars signal...

I don't even bother with 3G its always been like this in my area. LTE at least occasionally works okay.

Definitely sounds odd. I would expect even with high demand that your upload would be higher on LTE, it looks more to me like 3G service except for the low ping.

Any loadshedding in or around your area?

That is actually 3G. Not sure why I get such a low ping but I can see the tower from my window. I forced my Huawei wifi device to 3G for that last test. The one before is LTE.

Either it is shaped to hell or these towers are congested.

Anyway there's not much that can be done I suppose :( I'm considering neobroadand wireless LTE instead as that seems to be getting more favorable/stable results with other forumites. It is pretty much the only option left to me as Lonehill complexes hardly have any other infrastructure in Fourways. Not even copper.

Aparrantly we share grid with a fire station so loadshedding is minimal in the area. Happens but seldom.

We definitely don't shape the data, but congestion is a possibility, especially if there is minimal infrastructure for people to share. It would make sense then for MTN's coverage team to get involved. If there is enough demand, they can put in any temporary measures possible and also recommend upgrades for the area.

You can log the request here https://www.mtn.co.za/_LAYOUTS/MTN.SP2010.FormsData/Networkcoveragequery.aspx

MODEM LOCKED ON 3G full signal

I can not go on like this. I don't care if you say its in MTN hands. I am paying afrihost my money , I really have been patience over this crap for long enough.

LAST reply I got was : We're following up with them where and when we can.

Please in the name of all things holy, sort your new app icon. A big read square is just ugly

I know this has gone on for a long time, I promise we've been doing our best to follow this up, but we have to wait for feedback from MTN. We simply don't have the access or resources to be able to take this further without their intervention :(
