Afrihost Mobile Feedback

Hey @Afrigirl. I’m on Air Mobile with my iPhone 15 and eSIM. My cell connection goes to 3G pretty much all the time when I’m in a building (at work in Bryanston and at home in Illovo). But I know there is LTE/5G available in the work building because colleagues on MTN are on LTE/5G. To get it back to LTE/5G I have to turn flight mode on and off. And even then, it usually only lasts a few minutes before going back to 3G. It also changes to 3G whenever I make a call, which is annoying because I can’t browse the internet while waiting on the phone. Is this expected behaviour for AirMobile?

Hi.

Yes, we have picked it up. To resolve this we need to have VoLTE enabled on MVNO.

@Afrigirl few of us still can't log in to the app on the phone when we ran out of data on the afrihost apn

Any one else having issues with uncapped apn this morning?

I have full signal but uncapped apn not working but my normal prepaid apn is working fine

My son could not use his phone this morning. I tried phoning his number and I got a message that says the number is not available on the MTN network. I found a sms on his phone from last week that said he has not made a billable call for 6 months and will be disconnected if not used within 5 days. So two questions.

1. What has MTN got to do with billing on an Afrihost sim?
2. How do I fix this?

It is a prepaid sim card (MTN) on Afrihost APN. If MTN does not detect any activity (SMS or Calls) on the Network in 90 days, it deactivates the sim on the network.

Unfortunately, you will need to replace the SIM card.

Thanks for the reply.
When you say replace the sim, is that a new number again?

And what happens to the data that I just loaded on that sim?

Yes, you will be getting a new number.
Please send me your account number so we can lock the data link and credit the remaining days.

He is on Afrihost, which is why I asked the question here.

I have a 2nd sim on my phone and have not had this issue, why is that?
For a SIM to be deactivated like that, it means he is on Air Mobile (Legacy), not on Airmobile (MVNO)
It happened because the client used an OPT-In SIM card (Prepaid MTN SIM).

Sim cards provided by us would not have been deactivated because a script is run to ensure that we load at least R2.00 airtime in those SIM cards to ensure network activity with MTN.

Has the issue with e-sims not working on iPhone SE been sorted out yet? I remember now that this was the problem, so yes he still has the ugly sim card in his phone!

Unfortunately, not. The device is still not approved.
Please note we only offering eSIMs on our new Airmobile (MVNO). The package in question is still on our AIr mobile data only package.

Yes, I've remembered now that I got an e-sim for him but did not work so he stayed on the MTN sim. I guess I'll have to order a sim for him from the app then?
