Afrihost Mobile Feedback

As usual, Afrihost has forgotten about me, now 3 months and they can't rectify a Mobile Sim problem...:mad:

That's not good at all! :( We should definitely have made some progress on this by now. Can you please PM me your details and I'll follow-up on this.
 
Just got this response from Afrihost Support today:

"There is data on the sim card that you received with the phone. All you need to do is to activate this sim card by inserting it in a cellphone so that a cellphone number can be allocated to it. Thereafter, you will receive an SMS confirming that your sim card is active and you can then use your data."

It's the same message I get every time I try and follow up. How many more times do they want me to insert the card to obtain a number?? I got the number 3 months ago on the day I received my new phone, I mean, who would not?? I've made calls with this SIM, sent SMS's on this SIM, confirmed with MTN the SIM is RICA'd, I have given consent for Afrihost as per the Afrihost Start Kit instructions, from the number assigned to this SIM using *141*774*1#, I have changed the APN to afrihost...

Clientzone shows me "Still Awaiting Activation" so where is this data they speak of?

Did I miss anything?

A BIG shout out to AfriGenie, eventually after fighting with Afrihost for 3 months, AfriGenie walked to the end of the road with me and got my SIM card sorted out! Thank you AfriGenie. We need more people like you :D

Definitely! :)

You will then just cancel the sim card we provided and sign-up for the ported number through the ClientZone. :)
 
Thanks for the feedback. Why would I need to cancel the first sim card? I have ported to an existing card on another provider,

Your query might not have been too clear. :( The port actually happens from your current provider to MTN at which point you can sign up for an Afrihost Voice or APN package. :) Check out this link for more porting info:

Why is this so? I have ported a number onto a running contract with FNB connect and it worked fine. Is it a limitation of MTN's network?

It's about the way in which a number is linked to a sim card. :( De-provisioning the number means that the sim card is deactivated.

That's kinda random... Have you tried using *130*601# to opt-out of MTN Promotional Messages?

Yip, I went through the whole process last time they decided to spam us this way. Pops up after an outgoing call and will only go away after pressing Cancel.

Doesn't pop up after Telegram or Whatsapp calls so guess what I'm going to use....

That looks like a pop-up from the sim application thing. If you go to Settings > Phone > Sim Applications. There should be something called xChange something something. Try opt out of that.

It doens't look like my Android phone has that option.
