Afrihost Mobile Feedback

My experience today. Great service from Afrihost with a bit of waiting time.

Today my moms Afrihost Data suddenly stopped working in her dual sim phone.
Tested other sim and phone. Phone/Android working fine. Good. Time to phone Afrihost Helpdesk extension 3 at 7:40am:

1)Although I was caller number 1 there was no answer after 4minutes. Okay phoned extension 6 or something. 10 minutes later I went down from caller 8 to caller 6. There I was stuck for a while. Okay. Back to extension 3 for Mobile: Yeah! 1 minute and someone answered!

2)I then got helped by a really nice lady, who also after 10 minutes phoned me back. Turned out the MTN sim I used for Afrishost got cut of by MTN because it wasn't used for anything else but Afrihost data (I knew about this in the beginning but obviously forgot after 10 months). Good. Now I need to get another MTN sim or Afrihost will send me an Afrihost Prepaid SIM. Hang up.

3) 20 minutes later I found a 12 month old sealed Afrihost Prepaid SIM that came with my phone but never used it. Excellent, ! Put SIM in phone, set it as SIM 1 so it can register, set it as SIM 2 with correct APN settings, got an email few seconds later with sim number. Back to Afrishost Help desk:

4) Extension 3. Les than 2 minutes later another nice lady answered, she immediately saw I am on mobile and ask if she can phone back. I then ask if I can speak to the other very nice lady again. No problem. "Old sim" data got transferred to new sim. Correct bundle and Plus got applied. Everything good to go!

5) SIM works great and data usage is back to normal.

TL;DR:
Expect 15 minute waiting time before 8am, otherwise 2 - 4 minutes fro mobile extension. Try another extension or stay on the correct one and be patient. Awesome helpdesk service. Setting up Afrihost SIM is quick and easy. Transferring information from one SIM to another was quick and easy.

Keep it up!

So who can guess what the nice ladies name (nickname) was? :D It starts with a "D"...

Thanks for the feedback! I really really appreciate you taking the time to share the experience with us!

Reducing the waiting time on Support Calls is a definitely priority for us, and we are working on expanding our Support Team for this reason. :)

You can get 4GB of Mobile Data for R197 per month. :)

Top-ups are R99 per GB, but if you are topping up regularly it may be worth upgrading your base package.

I'm in urgent need of mobile data to use tomorrow afternoon. I have a full size MTN sim and a portable LTE router already. If I take out a 4GB data contract with Afrihost for R197, will the provisioning be done within 12 hours and can I cancel before being charged again?

Edit: I see I'm being offered pro-rata data anyway, so that's useless. I've signed up for 250MB for R1 once-off and I'll top-up when that's provisioned. Please tell me it doesn't actually take 24 hours minimum.

I’ve had it done within an hour, during business hours via Axxess

Got an email just over an hour ago to say the number was provisioned. Data top-ups now showing up in the Clientzone. Seems I'm sorted for today!

(Just a pity prepaid data prices on mobile are such bs)

Yeah, wish LTE was much cheaper. Would love to drop Telkom DSL for Afr/Axxess LTE. My only other alternative.

The PrePaid Mobile Data prices are higher, but that is offset by the data lasting a year.

If you need a more permanent solution you may want to check out the Fixed Wireless packages. :)

How long does payment by debit order take when signing up for the first time? Capitec.

Difficult to say, really depends on the bank. We're working on some automated tools to speed up the process, but generally up to five working days.

Just renewed my MTN cellphone contract, and changed to a new package as part of the upgrade. The moment I go the SMS's saying contract had been upgraded, my Afrihost APN stopped working.

Tried turning off the phone, changing to mymtn and back, but no dice. Never had this before, is it a known occurence?

Logged a call for this, as I assume it's unlinked or something after the package change.

I tried to log the call via your support website, for something new, but ended up being very annoyed with your Captcha thingy at the bottom. Are there spaces or not, is that a u or a v, why will it not accept this #^%%$ entry etc...

Also got a continuous "We encountered a problem (cross-site request forgery detected); please try again" so might not have been the Captcha after all but as that wasn't clear I kept trying. My wife couldn't get the Captcha either, so ended up emailing support :)

What the h3ll is cross-site request forgery detected anyway?

Sounds like we just need to re-provision your number seeing as it's now linked to a new MTN package. Drop me a PM with your info and I'll help you with that. :)

Are you getting the error mentioned above in ClientZone?

Morning guys,

Just a quick update on connectivity in the South. Our Network Team is still working on restoring a network issue in the South affecting certain DSL, Mobile & Fibre clients. The issue has been escalated to the switch vendor, but network communication between JHB and Cape Town is basically non existent. This means that new subscribers as well as usage quotas may also be affected. We're working hard to restore service as quickly as possible. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Cancelled afrihost mobile on the evening of the 24th October. Took a screenshot of the app showing that I would not be charged for November yet they still have. Two emails to accounts on 01/11 and one to support 02/11 and still no reponse....

Our billing run did kick off on the 24th last month. I'm surprised that ClientZone stated otherwise. Please drop me a PM and I'll help clear this up.

The beginning of this month my internet connectivity just dropped - no 2G/3G/4G/LTE symbol. I contacted support who said I didn't have any data although I get 1GB every month and only used about 30MB the first few days. So they added another gig to my account but I still cannot connect. Was then told that they reprovisioned my sim and it should connect now. I have restarted my phone, deleted my Afrihost APN added it in again but still nothing. I can still make and receive calls so this is purely a data/APN thing.

This is not the first time this has happened either. It was a huge mission to get it working last time as well.

That's not good to hear! :( Can you please Inbox me your details and I'll check what's going on.
