MEDIUM IMPACT
We are investigating reports of no connectivity affecting clients using the Afrihost APN on the MTN network. We are working on identifying and resolve this issue as quickly as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may be causing.

Hi folks.

Does anyone know if the Air Mobile SIM cards obtained directly from Afrihost also require the same MTN revenue-generating nonsense every 30 days that normal MTN prepaid SIMs (using the Afrihost APN) need?

Prepaid MTN SIMs need revenue-generating events with MTN every 30 days, and if not they get terminated. Wondering if the SIMs obtained directly from Afrihost / Air Mobile have the same billing event requirements with MTN.

Hopefully what I'm asking makes sense to someone. I'm guessing it'll confuse many. :p
Signed up with the new uncapped package and have just been burned by MTN's SIM termination (without warning). The APN package is tied to a now-terminated SIM. Looking for convenient ways to avoid this for future. :)

Thank you.

EDIT: It was impossible reaching a human being at MTN via telephone, but finally got confirmation from their customer care email account 4 days later that the number was already disconnected & recycled, and can't be retained. Transferred 50GBs to another prepaid SIM to use for this month, and will look at obtaining SIM direct from Afrihost from next month.

EDIT2: Found the nasty, hidden little gotcha:

Hi

If you get a sim from us it will not be de-activated due to the "inactivity"

Another option is the MTN Access4life extender. The cost is R5 ever 90 days and the simcard stays active.

You can have a look at that link for more details.

Wanted to move over from Pre-Paid AirMobile to AirMobile Uncapped but have to cancel a pre-paid product and wait until November to make it happen? Really dumb guys :/

Hi, I understand it is not ideal, however, Clientzone does not allow package change for Air Mobile Prepaid package. We do apologise for the inconvenience caused, we hope to provide more flexibility for our mobile packages.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I saw a while ago that members were experiencing increased battery drain using Afrihost mobile. Is this still a problem?

Yes it is still an issue, as a work around we are allocating a Nat Ip to clients that are experiencing increased battery drain.

Just wanna say thanks to the Afrihost reps on this forum for going over and above for me. Appreciate you.

@Afrigirl I've been getting a ton of marketing emails coming from MTN, so I have opted out where I can.

But at times, will get a full-screen USSD prompt too, which is annoying. I have also received a phone call (No Caller ID) which is automated saying "Press 1 now for an R50 Checkers voucher"

Anything you guys can do from your end perhaps?

Hi, please try the following.
  1. Dial *135#
  2. If you are on contract, select “Contract Management”. If you are on prepaid, select “Prepaid Service”.
  3. Select “Change Consent Settings”
  4. Select one of the types of marketing messages and toggle your consent setting to “No”
  5. Repeat the steps above for each of the marketing message types.

If it does not help, you may download the MTN App and block the promotional SMSes from there.

Is this still an issue? Mobile speeds is super slow

I'm having an issue with some afrihost sims and I have created a support ticket over a month ago now. I have checked back and replied to the ticket 7 times now and every time the support agent says it's been escalated to critical care, but I am not getting any response on the issue.

Who can I pm with the ticket number so they can look into it for me please?

Hi, please share the ticket ID with me.
