There is an issue affecting afrihost apn traffic on MTN. Serms to be throttled from 8am or as usage increases through the day.

Hi Afrigirl. I am having the same problem as last time. Which you resolved for me. See previous posts. The service again is appalling and Afrihost help centre take me through the reboot standard protocol, but this has been now a problem for about two weeks. Cannot have a decent WhatsApp call. And streaming movies is sporadic. I see the lte service is having problems generally but this is ridiculous. It’s been going on for so long. Please can you resolve.

Morning,

We continue our investigation with MTN on the issue.

KZN wasn't an option for a cross-connect but this might have changed. I will chat to the team to explore the possibility of getting a cross-connect set up in KZN.

Ok it looks like this is being ignored by Aftihost. Every time I get hold of them on WhatsApp I have to go through the same procedure as if it’s a fault on my side. Waste if time.
This is being typed on my Vodacom data connection.
 
Got an MTN prepaid SIM last week. Put it into an iPhone SE 2022 last night for use as a dedicated data SIM.

Managed to set everything up, got the free 1GB.

Sites loaded last night.

Now this morning it won't connect to anything?

Suggestions?

APN still showing as afrihost for the three sections. Under MMS section, there's other info like MMSC and MMS proxy, which is still mms.mtn.co.za, I assume that doesn't affect data.

You guys still looking into the issue? I see its still up on the website, My tower is acting weird with speed issues randomly.

I would like to log it but just waiting for all the issues to be clear your side

Yeah, I discovered that CellC are getting the same treatment, everything being proxied via JHB, and some intermittent speed throttling.
I just got myself an LHG LTE6 and have compared speeds. It makes more sense to use MTN directly for the time being. Thankfully they've got better offerings now.

For pure lte (mtn) you list thse routers as compatible:

  • BILLION: BiPAC 8206 AZ
  • HUAWEI: 5G CPE PRO 2, B2368 (-22, -57, -66), B525S (-23A,65A, -95A), B535-932, B612 (-233, -533), B612S (-25D, -51D, -52D), B618S (-22D, -65D, -66D), B818-263
  • MIKROTIK: Chateu LTE12
  • TP-LINK: Archer MR600 (EU) 2.0
  • VIDA: CPE4000-PLUS, CPE4000-PRO
  • ZTE: 5G CPE MC801A, MF286 (A, C, C1, D, R)
  • ZYXEL: LTE7460, LTE7480-M804

Yes, it should be the same version as the one listed.
 
Curiously, it worked for a few days then got blocked with support confirming that. This is clearly a purely artificial limitation. Guess I'll have to switch to regular air mobile or just go mtn direct
 
Anyone else’s connection intermittent? I have had periods of no internet for hours each day in various locations since beginning of last week. Full signal, MTN working fine, Afrihost apn not working.
 
Same here, didn't work for a couple of hours Monday morning, multiple locations. Just got a MTN out of data page.
