Afrihost Mobile review

Mine not so good. Not Afrihosts fault but the MTN signal to my area as I only manage to get 2G with full signal. Will try at various locations tomorrow.

I never get the Afrihost Mobile bag

Did post earlier.
Same device but with vodacom sim card(Inside the house)

With Afrimobile, I had to walk outside with laptop to get this results.

I am going to try it the place I really need the device working, that is in campus(library).

The Ordering process was the best. The device easy to use, but doubt most people will find it easy through. The only issue was the billing information I found was leaking, was very uncertain how it worked, was it for this month, next month or what, but Afriman answer that question for many users.

The network I have to test it the place I intend using it, Will provide feedback.

worked well at work but then at home wasn't so great. Every 5th ping packet, ping response went greater than 1 second, the other 4 packets around 50ms.

Another question, when's the end of the cycle? 1st of each month or the date of signup? e.g. next data cycle 20th September?

Afrihost said that data would be renewed on the 1st of each month, excluding the 1st of September.

If you really want to get the feel of a fixed line with this product then you need use it with a proper 3G router like the Huawei B660 and an external 3G antenna. I could only get a 2G signal with the mifi device, but was able to get a full 3G signal once I put the sim card in my Huawei B660 with a 3G antenna mounted outside. Anyone serious about using mobile data to replace their adsl needs a setup like this.

When I left MTN for Vodacom about 7 years ago, I had good 3G signal on MTN & it was definitely better than Vodacom.

According to the MTN coverage map I now only have 2G. Will have to check performance once the MiFi device arrives.

awesome service from Afrihost, not so good from "Empty-N", I am on 2g on a 1st floor building in Paulshof, I can almost see up to grand central from here..., as well as last night at a friends house in Centurion/Rooihuiskraal "oh uhm, we are only getting 13KB/s because we can only get edge here"

Those results don't look too good at all :( Far worse than my 8ta connection. I am getting mine today so let's see.

I have the same issue - it's pretty much useless at my house, but then again, that's not where I need it. So lets hope for the best at other locations!

I have forced mine to 3G only and even with a weak signal it's better than my 4M premium Mweb ADSL.

Is it possible to take this deal without the device?

The device was a gift with the deal to the first X customers.

Deal is R145 for sim with data. Should you want a unit you can buy a subsidized unit from AH.

So contact them to order sim only deal.....

Agree 100%. They should really look at offering a package with this sort of setup.

I got off the phone with them a few minutes ago. Sadly, the deal is only available with the device. Strange, but true (unless the person I spoke to was wrong).
