My new Afrihost LTE connection; LTE provisioning went through yesterday.

Speeds are down from Jan 2014 (30Mbps+) but my tower has been slower for the past month and a bit (same experience with Telkom Mobile LTE; possibly a backhaul issue).

Slight bump in speed this morning.

I'm just going to give up on Afrihost/Mtn. I just cannot get any decent speed. An antenna was installed but there is no real difference in download speed.

Now compare this with my 8ta/Telkom Mobile. (And according to Telkom I don't even have good coverage for their network)

I had an antenna professionally installed (think it is LPDA 0092). I have direct line of sight (although about 4km away). There are closer towers but no clear line of sight, trees and houses in the way.

So just now I decided to walk around with my laptop outside in my garden and do some speedtests.

Right in the back corner of my garden I got the following speed

then I went back into my house and connected to the antenna that was installed for me and back to the slow speeds.



What puzzles me is that the antenna is mounted on the front side of my house and there is a clear view to the tower but speeds are slow.

The back corner of my garden is surrounded by 4-5 big trees and several other obstructions and no view at all to the tower and my laptop is also not connected to the antenna.

Probably because it's early Sunday morning, but I'm happy with these speeds in PE on 3G.

Setup is just a Huawei E5372 with no aerials.
