Afrihost mobile uncapped

I think you better start crunching those numbers now as lucidview is coming in. And they are using the same MTN network.

if you are using mobile on your smartphone as a smartphone 10 gigs is pretty much as beneficial as "uncapped" so fork out R200 a month per device and Bobs your uncle

The only way mobile uncapped could work is if it is part of a "converged" offering where usage falls onto the "cheapest" connection all the time and you pay per device. The only case that comes in to my mind is a R200 per mobile device (sim card) uncapped product that is available to high end subscribers of DSL (so massive cap or 4meg and up uncapped) and maintain some abuse rules concerning using a device to boost speeds.

I don't have fixed uncapped/capped internet at home.. Solo relay on mobile data for communication to connect to the outside world and so far loving how stable, fast, reliable AfriHost data network is, even though they do once in blue moon experience tethering hiccups at first but a lovely product that works out of the box.

Highly doubt this new player on the block will actually offer true uncapped internet, probably at 56k/128k speeds then I can understand.

I remember when CELL C launched another company wanted to launch the same offering on another SP network but the SP Network said know.

I wonder how long it will actually take until this uncapped is actually canned.

Gief pleez!!

Oh wow - I can now stack the 3+7GB @ R197 on my top-up using the Afrihost app. The prices and options have changed. This means I can obtain 50GB for R985 - the cheapest in the industry by far. :) Of course it all hinges on the future availability of the Promo deals. ;)

P.S. This was confirmed by Faith at Afrihost.

What makes mobile bandwidth way more expensive than ADSL? Dont they use the same Seacom and EASSY cables?

I guess it's more expensive tower infrastructure vs cable bases - as well as having to setup multiple towers for better coverage. I'm guessing here though (I'm hoping it's coming off as an educated guess) ;)

Whatever the reasons, the reality is that it is :(

We've seen their "soft launch" in the press and such. I did note that they have a capacity based throttling system. We wouldn't want to do any kind of throttling if we don't have to, we want the experience to be as close to DSL as possible, it also makes it easier to manage products and service in a simple way - and clients know what to expect.

I trust our directors (they've got us this far) to do this at the right time and in the right way :)

You make a great point here. I think we don't really know enough about what would distinguish between capped and uncapped demand and how to differentiate the products to offer the right price and value. It's nice to strike while the iron is hot, but always better to be prudent and understand the market before jumping in ;)

I'm not sure if I really understand this here. Standard top up rates are R99 per GB, and R49.50 per GB if you grab a 2 for 1 special when it's on.

Can you explain how you got to this figure (albeit with the help of one of our people)? I think there may be a miscommunication here :(

I also see it on the Android Mobile App (excluding the terms - so I cannot confirm)

Those topups are not available via the web clientzone.
