Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

Basically the whole point of the post if anyone missed it was: "Why are some very compatible routers that clearly offer the same experience not approved"?

As far as I know they don't offer the same experience - the Cat 6 routers are superior in many ways and work optimally with the network infrastructure.

How long does it take from ordering the Pure LTE SIM from Afrihost until delivery?

Once payment clears or is verified, we aim for around 48 hour delivery. Really depends on your location and payment method. Credit card is usually the fastest.

I received my new MTN package at work today. Ran back home to have everything setup. So because I didn't know what to do with the old router (B315) I decided to connect the two using the RJ45 that came in the package. Naturally, I expected two WiFi networks, the B525 one and the B315 one. Which is what I got and both work, I can connect to the B525 or B315 and watch a Netflix video or two without much trouble. Except, there's a third network. Idk what it is, what the password is or what it even means. May anyone explain further?

Edit - The "HUAWEI-B525-5G-48D9" is the third one

Might be 5G network. Also, if you put one router in repeater mode, it creates a control network for settings, etc.

So I ordered a sim from Supersonic, waited a few days for delivery only to find out that the agent who handled my order used my home address as the delivery address instead of the address I explicitly specified! Had to wait a few more days for delivery from RAM.

I finally received the sim card yesterday.

Put it into my B315 router (Yes I know, I will get to that part later).
Did a speed test, it is amazingly fast. Ping: 22 Download : 52.22Mbps Upload: 23.66

I then decided to watch an episode of New Amsterdam on ShowMax. After about 20mins my internet got disconnected. Contacted Supersonic via whatsapp and got no response for about an hour.
I then decided to tweet them, got a response in 5 mins. They asked for my account details, which I provided and within a few minutes got a reply.

I used a non approved router so the sim card got blocked. The router is compatible, just not approved. This makes no sense at all.

I have 2 4G routers a ZTE MF283 and a Huawei B315 that are technically useless to me right now.
I asked the SuperSonic consulted how I can cancel the service and was told I have to return the sim card in order to cancel the service.

So basically the MTN fixed LTE has 2 limitations. You can only use it with specific routers and can only use it at a single location. So if you were thinking of getting this for your dual sim cellphone, you can forget about it. It will only work for a few minutes before MTN blocks the sim card.

Tested the sim in my Huawei p30 lite.

So they force Huawei routers?

Fck that. Won't touch mtn then.

Ohh okay so seems the MTN Fixed LTE judging by the screenshots of Lebo that it's the same as Cellc.

Basically just the MTN tower is being used and traffic handed over to Afrihost at Teraco probably and then Afrihost takes it from there. So you are not using the MTN network just their towers. That means everything local peers at teraco and international goes via Liquid telecoms.

Not using MTN network?? How so if we using their towers?
My signal when i popped a MTN sim card in my phone is far stronger than my current Rain...

They sell the packages as MTN Fixed LTE.

Yes it's using MTN towers but the network is Afrihost's Airmobile network. Just like their fibre it's Afrihost fibre but on Openserve or Vumatel or who ever.

192.143.143.185 is not a MTN IP... When you do a trace on MTN Fixed LTE you will see that basically the tower and the transit to the handover is MTN after that it's all Afrihost.

Well as long as the speeds and signal are noticeably better...I don't really care.
And if there is no break during Eksdom power cuts....Rain doesn't seem to be effected in my neighbourhood..the one plus to using them.

Very obfuscated way of selling to the public....not at all transparent.
Guess most resellers do the same.

Well if you remember the fixed LTE sold by IS and Afrihost. Same thing. Traffic handed over to Afrihost or IS and they do the rest and is the reason why when you do a speedtest it will show Airmobile for Afrihost or Internet Solution for some of the Cellc fixed LTE packages.

The only issue I see with this is the not so ideal routing via Liquid telecoms to EU. Also means when liquid was DDOSed and if it happens again MTN Fixed LTE sold by Afrihost will be down too.

The MTn Fixed LTE deal sold by Supersonic is injected to their network and we know they use the MTN Business network so all MTN there and obviously the MTN Made for you Fixed LTE sold by MTN on contract will be using their own network.
