Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

Afrihost is awful atm.

Torrents: 1+MB/s on CW, <500KB/s on AH
NNTP: 4.8MB/s on CW (IS server), 700KB/s on AH
Steam download: 4.4MB/s on CW, 2.5MB/s on AH

Are you confusing Mb/s with MB/s?

Try change your steam download location, rumour has it that the NAG lan is destroying the JHB steam server.

I'm definitely not confusing them. Steam does not report Mbps.

NNTP is shocking at the moment. I'm getting 500KB/s. Typical used to be 2MB/s. Recently been getting worse and worse. Too much free bandwidth me thinks :(

Guys are any of you on FASTPATH?
Telkom are telling AH my line's on FASTPATH, however my modem's reporting Interleaver Depth > 1 and Interleaving Delay of 5ms. No one has yet offered concrete evidence.
Is there any way for me to confirm other than via the reported Interleaver Depth, which I assume will be 0 on FASTPATH?

I'd take your router over most useless Telkom reps, of course there are exceptions like the Telkom rep on this forum. What's your latency to bras.afrihost.com?

My 10mb line started syncing at 12mb when ASSIA started, and I heard 4mb lines sync at 5mb so maybe look at your sync rate to make a determination assuming your line is healthy?

EDIT: The higher speed is Interleaved.

Not fast path, router would be correct, PM Telkomza.

We have no problem

This was the reply I get from critical care on 7 of October

Good day Thorsten

I hope you are well :)

I've checked with the network team and there was no reported increase in latency on the network in the South. There was also no management applied to the network during the reported times that could attribute to the increase observed.

I'll have the network team look deeper and perform tests to try and replicate your results. Kindly provide me with test performed now for comparison.

I hope this information serves you well, have a great day and please let me know if I can help with anything else :)

Warm regards,
Critical Care Crew
