Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

Sorry, thought you were complaining, I went back and read your original post, my bad.

Noted about nextgen, what would you recommend as I just use a block account from them which does the job, although seldomly I find things missing?

Seeing you and Iceman aren't having issues, can you guys post comparative tests after 6pm like speedtest to New York, and maybe a tracert?
I will do so if i remember lol, but like i said, i dont really do Gaming or twitch, so maybe im just not seeing these things. But Youtube and other streaming services are good. My torrents run at about 1.4mb/s on a 20mbps line.

My latency last night wasnt great to be fair, over 100ms, so there was something strange happening. But will check again after 6pm.

And btw, i think many users are not having issues, which again, its a very difficult one for any isp to handle, as the problems are not affecting everybody.

So being on Afrihost for a month, things have been running relatively smooth...I thought the problems I see on this forum must be to a selected few unlucky guys until this weekend it seemed every video I tried to play or stream online would just start in a constant buffer, even if I paused for a while it wouldn't help.

I remember seeing all the posts on here about the same problems so signed up for a CW test account and as soon as I switched to it, boom, the same video I was trying to watch that was constantly buffering just kicked off in HD and didn't buffer once. Surely this is related to the ISP? My speedtest was fine but my local ping was averaging 170 - 220ms.

I wont be home this week to test so going to hope problems like this are fixed or you will lose a new customer, and I dont actually want to go.

Sure, I'll try and remember to do some tests later this evening :)
Re: NextGenNews https://www.reddit.com/r/usenet/comments/2vxnbq/nextgennews_as_block_provider/

I personally use Blocknews as a high retention block, XSUsenet and XS News as mains, with the Afrihost box as a backup.

This is where the YMMV comes in. People use the internet different to other people, so, the people that aren't complaining should do the same tests (at the same time) as the people that are complaining, then we'll get a better idea where the problem is.

Always test international, not local.

but that is not how things should be. If you asking me to do specific tests just to see that there is a problem on something i dont use, then i dont see the point. I only use things for streaming and browsing, and the odd torrents now and then. Hence my earlier comment, about people not complaining, because the things that they use it for is working well.

Edit: Unless everybody on the Afrihost network tests the same thing, Afrihost would never really see it as an issue from a business point of view, but would have to individually test with those affected. If the entire network went down, and the entire Afrihost data base goes down, then its a problem they can address.

Then I don't see the point in you saying "but it works for me!" when people are complaining of a service you just admitted you don't use...

No i said things are okay for me ie Youtube, Torrents and browsing, but i dont use things like Twitch and so on. I pretty much said that. i also said Latency wasnt great last night, so im not saying things werent great, because i checked that, and my latency is never that high

Morning Guys!

I'll be going through the thread, post by post, but I can already see that it doesn't look like things were great in the South over the week. Our Team is going through the results that have been posted here, but for now it would really help us a lot if you guys can indicate which type of ADSL account you are on, and the DNS Servers that you are using at the moment.

Perhaps a template with required details would help?

Fault type : [NEW / Update]
Fault/problem :
Services affected :
Times affected :
Router restarted : [yes/no]
Telkom port reset : [yes/no]
Can fault be replicated by using another ISP : [yes/no + ISP name]
ADSL Account : [capped/uncapped]
Location : [City, Suburb]
DNS Servers :
Ping to bras.afrihost.co.za :
tracert to local :
tracert to international :
previous post(s)# : [if problem was submitted before]

That way when you come online after a long weekend you will have all the info required + most people are at work on a Monday morning and not able to test until they get back home :-)

10Mbps Capped, Google DNS. My first post yesterday has the tracert, it just became more extreme over time.

Thanks for the update. And so far you're only seeing the increase in latency from 18h00 to 00h00?

Mine was about 5pm with about 2% packet loss which caused my LoL EUW ping to be about 300ms average with random clicks not happening. It just went to extremities at 7pm with about 15% packet loss. I planned to raid but couldn't due to teleporting around. Ping tests were still the same at 300ms. This lasted till about 11pm when I gave up and went to bed (could have gone on longer).

Caped account auto dns

Capped account. both google (8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4) and auto dns.
Regularly happens after 6pm, starts getting more stable by 11. Some days it doesn't happen. Generally fridays are guaranteed stuff-ups. Other ISP accounts are fine, so thats what i've now resorted to doing. Afrihost by day, competitor between 6 and 12
