Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

I thought double data were made permanent a while ago when IPC prices were halved.

Changing specifications for capped accounts aren't cool. I'm very disappointed in you Afrihost. :(

According to the new guy afrinatic's post #8925.,they had a peep at their competitors and realized we can do with less.

Please clarify some confusion ...example would work best:

I was on 50 + 50= 100 gigs at R99

from the small print:

4 Priority-Boosted Bandwidth
- Paid Monthly Capped DSL Packages get Free Unshaped Double Anytime Data until 31 December 2016, at which point, unless the client chooses Priority-Boosted Bandwidth, will be switched to double their current allocation using Shaped Capped Data from 1 January 2017 onwards.

Is my understanding thus correct that if I opt for Shaped Capped Data (!!) I will pay R99 per month for 100 gigs shaped data?

Yes, so you would then have your Double Data (50+50) converted to a 100GB Shaped Capped account. The important thing to remember is that we are reserving the right to shape in exceptional circumstances, so we foresee that the product will perform at similar levels as the current capped product except for periods of exceptionally high demand.

Personally i dont want double data,i stated that before.

I just want a fast network.:D

Afriman,my 100gb is now costing r99. How much is it with the boost to unshape it?

Like every evening for the last month

I think what he was trying to say is that when client's compare our products, our prices appear to be higher becuase we are compared with other company's shaped products, and we potentially lose those clients who could help us get a higher breakage and be able to bring costs down (and we can pass those savings onto our clients).

Firstly, I think it's important that I clarify that the Shaped Capped DSL is not intended to be shaped wherever possible. We reserve the right to shape, and this is in times of severe congestion. We will always shape Uncapped first, starting with Home (which can also be throttled), then Premium, then Business in extreme circumstances. Only when all these options have been exhausted, we reserve the right to shape Shaped Capped DSL to preserve network performance. We're talking about very exceptional circumstances and we except that ultimately the Capped experience will remain very much the same. But some clients may never want to be shaped under any circumstances, and they can opt for the premium, Priority-Boosted option.

Why does this contradict what you just said?

I totally understand that. So now you would need to go for the base R100GB product, or Priority-Boosted 100GB, which is then the highest priority on our network and will be R199pm.

Once again, some ******* corprorate retard without a clue decides to screw every single CAPPED account customer over.
WHY NOT GO BACK TO THE OLD ACCOUNTS?!NO ONE ASKED FOR FREE ****ING DATA!
CAPPED PEOPLE WILL NOW SUFFER ALONG WITH EVERYONE ELSE WHEN AFRIHOST FEELS NETWORK LOAD - WHICH IS EVERY ****ING DAY! SO YOURE PAYING AND GETTING THE SAME AS AN UNCAPPED CUSTOMER BECAUSE P2P and LARGE DOWNLOADS ARE SHAPED FIRST ON ALL PACKAGES!
WELL DONE ON LOSING CAPPED CUSTOMERS AFRIHOST - ALL BECAUSE YOU DONT KNOW HOW TO PLAN NETWORK LOAD! ****ING MORONS!

We really don't feel that this is in any way intended to screw over our clients. We're really trying to satisfy our clients in the best way we can and still keep our doors open. Our DSL operates on such low margins, it was always going to be extremely difficult for us to keep double data going. We felt that this could be a good option to give Double Data to those clients who didn't mind giving us the option of shaping them during exceptional network demand, so that we can keep our costs (and margins) as low as possible.

Vox Telecom offers 200GB unshaped data. Sad thing is, those that signed up before Vox did the package upgrades got more data for being loyal.

Afrihost doesn't reward loyalty. Even the R 1 packages was for new customers. Current customers got no saving. Absolutely sad.

Free time may be valuable but if it's causing the network to break, then stop the free time. If you want free time, why not moved to uncapped? I am on a capped package for the unshaped experience. Otherwise what's the use of going to capped?

We definitely value loyalty from both our clients and our team. The R1 option was available to all our clients if they upgrade during the same period.

Free-Time definitely had some impact, but as Gian said in the email, we had hoped for a bigger uptake to be able to upgrade our capacity more aggressively. We didn't get what we hoped for, and that's why we've limited Free-Time to higher value packages and restored After Hours data for lower packages.

That's definitely as it was explained to me by our network engineers, but I'll chat with them again to get more clarity. My understanding is that we shape Uncapped before we shape touch capped.

So if low network strain p2p is shaped on capped accounts. I'd rather get the priority, a lot of games use p2p and when I was on your uncapped products a couple of years ago it messed with my latency.

And as I asked before, does Free Time still apply, and what happens to roll-over.

Remember when it was just Uncapped and Capped?

Remember when Capped was unshaped and Uncapped was shaped?

Remember when Business Uncapped launched as unshaped?

Remember when Home and Home premium launched which introduced throttling?

Remember when Business uncapped became shaped?

Remember when Capped become shaped?

sjoe Afrihost... you're supposed to be progressing.

If you look at the text in the mailer, it does say the priority in which we shape, which I think the diagram doesn't represent as clearly. Our intention is to shape Capped as a last resort.

Free-Time will apply on packages above R299pm (for both Shaped and Priority-Boosted Capped). Rollover will remain as is.

I remember those days fondly - it was definitely easier for us.

We see a lot more demand for a bigger range of options from clients, and we're always trying to find ways bring more value (by bringing costs down) which means we need to appeal to more clients so we can get the volume to do that. Unfortunately that does mean more complexity, but the challenge is to make it easy for the individual to find what they need quickly. I believe the team have done a great job in keeping ClientZone as easy to use as always :)

Indeed.
