Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

OK, @AfriGuy:
Here is as detailed as I can get about this.
EVERY DAY from around 6/7pm, through to 11pm (sometimes as deep as 2am), my latency goes absolutely INSANE.
Where I can usually get 250ms to World of Tanks NA Eastcoast server, it rockets out of control between 300-400 and often comes with a LOT of packet loss.
(sounds like a minor increase, but it makes the game 100% unplayable after 300ms)

Here (attached below) is a pingplotter snapshot.
This is done over 400+ packets worth of testing over ~10-20 mins.
Notice the 10% packetloss in JHB (hop 8), with an AVERAGE ping of over 120!
Notice Hop 9 to CPT, with an AVERAGE ping of ALMOST 250!!!

Unacceptable.
But I'm pretty sure this will all just be another "mystery" problem that you wont give a damn about, and will never find nor fix anyway.

Go ahead.
PROVE me wrong.

EDIT: Auto DNS
169.1.1.4
169.1.1.10

EDIT 2: Last 3 hops seem high.

I'm having problems with slack (and with my connection to our work network that runs on neotel). Haven't tried play store and other international sites like facebook are running fine right now.

slack.com ping results:

100 packets transmitted, 100 received, 0% packet loss, time 99091ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 177.165/234.119/1010.670/113.874 ms, pipe 2

As to the problem connecting to Neotel, there seems to be packet loss between cpt-net1.ip.adsl.co.za (169.1.5.128) and 41.164.52.40. Possibly congestion at a peering point?

Peter

Morning guys! :) Not aware of any general issues from last night. Slack and news24.com is testing well on my side this morning. How is it running for you?

We definitely do give a damn about everyone's experience! :) Thanks for these tests, I'll pass it on to our Network Team and follow up with Afriguy. I'm sure we'll be able to find a cause here.

P.S. Have you PM'd Afriguy your account details before?

News24.com working for me this morning. Was not working last night.

Thanks for the update! If it happens again, please let us know ASAP.

Do you maybe have the News24 app installed?

Yes IOS News24 app did not work last night and their website too. This morning both work.

Hey guys

Seeing a few queries pop up over on Social.
Looks like Telkom have confirmed an outage in a few suburbs in/ around CPT.

Affected areas as follows:

Milnerton, Bothasig, Parow & Tableview.

Connections may be intermittent, but seem to also see high latency.

Yip.

Sounds like an odd one, usually Twitch is happy to max out your line.
Is there a specific stream I can check for you?

It seems to be working now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I will continue to monitor, yesterday I had a similar issue with a 1080p 60fps stream where it wouldn't max out my line.

Twitch just does not work for me at all and it does not seem to be a afrihost problem. I have a 20Mbps VDSL line which syncs @ 22.5Mbps down and 2Mbps up and speedstest max my line but my Afrihost capped account just buffers non stop.

Tried a Webafrica free account and it buffers too.

Just ran a test with this stream, High quality pulled down at 840KB/s, which nearly saturates my line.

It's watchable on Source for me, but does buffer and pulls down 1MB/s, saturating my line completely.

I can't. Source I get constant buffering ever 3 seconds. Nothing else on the router except my pc and this is a screenshot of the Windows task manager of network usage.

Hovers around 2.5Mbps or so....

Torrents and http download would max the line quickly but Twitch streaming just does not work for me ALWAYS buffers. Youtube on 1080p always work so if I stream the league of legends esports I watch their youtube channel works fine while the same twitch stream buffers.

Sees to jump around a lot.
Have you tried switching around DNS servers?

Not as yet maybe I should try the google dns out and see if they work. Just left DNS on default as they were working well for me.
