I currently have a 4meg uncapped line in Durban with telkom and get speeds of 3.8/3.9mb/s on speedtest.net. Im looking to Upgrading to a 10meg 150gig capped account at Afrihost. I was want to inquire about the Quality of service from Afrihost and also the speed in the durban area. I do remember alot of people where complaining about their services last year when they where migrating their network.

If you read a few pages back there isn't really a mention about overall/ widespread issues in a particular area :)
The best way to test things out is first hand, and if you aren't happy with the account we'll gladly refund you. I'm sure that won't need to happen though.

Is your line capable of 10Mbps?

Why don't you just sign up for the free 1GB capped account and check?

Hey

I see Axxess' mobile data only has a rollover for three months, do you have the same thing on afrihost mobile data only. I want to sign up

Hi :)

I'm afraid our monthly data data doesn't roll-over, only topups do.

Yes according to both telkom and Afrihost my max line speed is 10Mbps. I just signed up for the half price 50 gig as a true for this month. :) . Thank you for your help

Just got off the phone with the consultant with regards to why is Afrihost pings(in international Games) Higher than some other isp's and he says its because they are routing to England first, I asked is there an eta on any kind of fix and he said nope no eta, my main use of internet is gaming so any reason i should stay with Afrihost ?

Not aware of any widespread issues around latency.
Are these games specific to Blizzard by any chance?

Thats really amazing how the guy that I spoke to at Afrihost was and you aren't... the game i am particularly interested in is a blizzard game but according to this agent its a known problem with pings

Hey Afriguy

Any new hints on whether there will be a suprise I see Vox dropped their 100gb to R189 and comes with six times rollover or are you waiting for telkom because I see they are doing something that ISPs can use to their advantage like line rental.

Yesterday late afternoon early evening while having my router page open to keep a eye on line stats I noticed something a few times.
My router Archer D7 shows a current sync rate and then also a max sync rate, since having my 10 MB line the current rate have been around 1 MB up and 8 MB down, max have been around 1.1 up and 8.9 down, and with my SNR up and down sitting around 6 dB.
So yesterday a few times, some only for 5 or so seconds and a few times up to a minut or 3, the max line sync and SNR suddenly spiked. max up was pretty much the same but down whent over 16 MB with SNR up and down going to over 12 - 14 dB. This is BTW in line with my exchange which supports up to 20 MB.

As said this happened a few times maybe 4 or 5 so it wasn't my imagination, this once again tells me that my line can be better, something's influencing my line whether environmental factors outside or whatever. I'm definatly taking replacing of all cables up to the pole further, I'll speak to Telkom or just do it myself.

What time did this happen more or less?

It could be that there weren't as many actively using their DSL connections on your Exchange.

Which part of the line rental are you referring to?

I can't really go into too much detail with regards to pricing. :)
