Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

Just an update, I found out our line was running interleaved mode, I already managed to get Telkom to put it back on fastpath (Shout out to TelkomZA Twitter guys.)

This seems to have resolved the excess latency on the Local side, meaning the CSGO servers

However the problem with World of Warcraft still remains, and it is specific to Afrihost and those servers as my normal international latency to EU is fine.
I get 188ms - 200ms to EU servers...and keep an eye on your line...Telkom normally disables ASSIA temperaly to test your line...I had the same issue.

Thanks for the update!

Our Team is having difficulty in replicating the latency on their side, they may need to contact you directly.

Hey guys,

I moved my line back to Afrihost after you guys setup the new network. Seems as though getting terrible ping spikes in World of Warships EU servers. Ranging from 100 to 500, very unstable. Tracert reviles nothing out of the ordinary. Download upload unaffected receiving true 2MB ADSl speed.

This problem for all of Wargaming games has plagued me before and if I move back to my Mweb account the problem doesn't re-surface. I'm looking for their EU World of Warships server but all I get is their main World of Tanks server, anyone here play any of Wargaming's games? I have a IP but I'm not sure if it the one we need so we can get that traffic streamlined.

Only IP's and ports I could managed to find.

Hi

For this specific IP I seem to get bounced around quite a bit, mind pasting your traceroute here so I can check it out?

Doh :(
Seen a few drops on your line today already. Hopefully things stabilise!

yeh man, but gaming in General seems okay for me. Dont play all these big games like some do, so its not really noticeable. My son mostly plays Minecraft and Plants vs Zombies, and me Fifa. It was just a quick loss of connection, then came back. Will check again tonight as i was late for work because i was fighting on Minecraft (which i have no idea what im doing) :D

Will get back to you Afriguy, just doing some work!

Same routing as me, you're bouncing between EU and USA.
Shoot me a PM with your DSL username and I can check things out :)

You gaming oaks, what line speeds are you using to game and what speed would you say is the minimum to game on? I know it's a very general question because I guess it depends on which games, which servers etc, but I know nothing of this stuff and need a general idea.

I think generally 4Mbps is the minumum, latency is probably the most important thing.

AfriGuy, keep a eye on your inbox, PM incoming.

PM received, I shall reply in a few :)

Hey guys

Our Social team is heading out for a spot of team building. We'll be back tomorrow morning to see the week off.
Support are standing by for any urgent queries :)

I'll Send those details right now AfriGuy. @bigboy529 4MB is Ideal connection depending on how stable you sync at and any other hiccups. But speed really doesn't influence the game play, it has to do with how fast you can connect to their servers (Their servers being the Game you're doing multiplayer on, how much ping you get, the higher the ping the crappier)

Line speed doesn't affect ping, ping only affected by distance and routing, so test with multiple ISP's to see who is best for your area.

I would say any speed as long as it can handle the game traffic, 1/2Mbps is fine. If anyone else is using the line though, I would get 8Mbps if I could, that extra half a megabit of upload stopped my ping from spiking when someone else in the house opened web pages/loaded YouTube videos and I can also have a Skype call going at the same time.

Have a look on your router for "bandwidth management" After enabling mine, my latency dropped from 3000ms when icloud was updating to 100ms, and this is on a 10mb line.

Yea, I was using the assumption that he is the only user.

If there are more users then using a faster line will help when there is other traffic on their network, but best to get a microtek router (don't ask me how to set that up though, that's rocket science :)).

No need, on a 10Mbps line, also web browsing/YouTube would probably still take priority anyways and setting it up for each and every game would be annoying. Uploading done via the Google Drive app which has a upload limit feature, though there is still complaining when I e-mail attachments, can't wait for fiber.

Latency to local quake servers very erratic tonight, getting spikes every few seconds like on a timer.
