Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

Remember that Premium can be shaped. When shaping is applied, BitTorrent is always going to be the most affected service.

That's fine, but as far as I'm aware, my general browsing and streaming shouldn't be affected. I'm sure you'll agree that if, during certain periods of the day, I'm not able to load a 720p YouTube video without buffering on an 8MB line, something's amiss. Not to mention random high latency and timeouts.

Absolutely agree, and that's exactly what we're wanting to avoid by doing this.
Either way, last week did seem to be a huge week - not seeing as near the amount of demand today compared to last week.

Worst case scenario is that demand becomes excessive, shaping won't affect realtime services.

Posting this from my phone because I can't even open a page using my Afrihost capped account.

Please help.

Anybody else having issues

Not seeing any general issues from our end this evening.
Shoot me a PM with your DSL username and I'll see if I can spot anything on your account :)

Everything feels sluggish, seems to be fine one minute and slow the next, sites randomly timing out. YouTube buffers then flys at line speed.

Just to clarify something, if shaping is introduced due to congestion for whatever reason on business accounts, will http downloads also be shaped like on premium accounts?

Shaping will only ever be implemented as a last resort for Business.
But yes, non-realtime services will be shaped.

I don't quite understand Afrihost's reasons for shaping HTTP. Afrihost seems to be the only ISP that does so.
Secondly I am very disappointed at Afrihost's decision to change the terms and policy on an existing product. This is a new low.

I really need to stress here that this is an absolute LAST resort, not sure if you saw AfriMan's posts earlier outlining the decision?
Either way, shoot our team a line with your feedback - it's still very early days and we're always open to making things work.

Not really interested, Afrihost have let us down. Although it's a last resort, it's still a dark cloud hanging over us business account users. A certain amount of uncertainty if you will.
