Sorry to hear that, do you see similar results to what's been posted by standerr?

It's not a huge issue for me, if i play cs I just switch over to an alt account. But yes I do see the same results in the evenings :) During the day no issues.

That's a bit of a PITA though.
I've logged some testing for myself later this evening, I'll report back tomorrow morning. Any specific host/ IP I can test?

Please also try and grab some results this evening.

I think this Mweb peering problem is slightly larger than just me. Either the links are congested at night or something within the network is taking strain. It only seems to be Afrihost to Mweb, other ISP's are fine.

That's why we're troubleshooting here though, but both mentions of this come from a different region. Please continue to troubleshoot with Critical Care.

Very interesting results here, thanks for setting this up and posting them :)
I've made a note to test things on my end this evening too - would you mind testing some pings to the hops that list higher than normal latency this evening?

Will do. I've been thinking about expanding my tooling to automate that :)

Quick Q, how many days notice do I need to give Afrihost in order to cancel my month to month business DSL via clientzone?

Do I need to cancel both the ADSL and the account?

Hey :)

You'll need to cancel before the 23rd of the month (to be safe) for the cancellation to go through for that month. So if you submit a cancellation now it'll be effective at the end of August.

Are you looking at migrating your line away?

Sometimes we feel the need to branch out to slightly different content.
AG need Gian to send me an email soon to spin the wheel of data. Lol im running low and the 1st is a few days away. Eish dont feel like topping up. Lol. Its gonna be touch and go. :D

Out of interest, how have you set it up?

I've automated tracert's to a specific list of hosts. This runs every 15 minutes. The results are parsed and logged into a database. It's parsed down to hop level, giving me the ability to do comparisons and draw statistics over time.
Then there is a private web site that surfaces the data, and for more detailed aggregates I drop down to database level :)

All done when I was frustrated with line issues about a year ago, and as usual when you manually test everything is fine. So decided to automate it.

That's super cool :)
I've recently started messing around with Telegraf, StatsD, InfluxDB and Grafana - and there's always Smokeping available too, if you wanna check that out.

Just a side note, I switched to Google DNS this morning, and now Facebook and Facebook Video's are fine.

Poking around,
It looks like all requests for Facebook direct to the VOX CDN Cluster when using Google DNS,
But when using Afrihost's DNS servers all requests for Facebook direct the Mweb CDN which are slow and make videos buffer.

We finally have fibre in the area so removing anything Telkom related - if I cancel today my line will it still be usable until the 31th August?

I currently have the bundled account - do I need to cancel everything in clientzone?

I'm personally not aware of any peering/ routing agreements via Vox though - please update our Critical Care team with the findings.

Ah nice one dude, lucky!!
If you don't need DSL anymore you can cancel everything via ClientZone, the line and data will stay active until the end of August - you'll have to specifically that specifically for your line though :)

Just a heads up that our DSL data does work on fibre, we just need to finalise our line provider offerings.
