Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

Well it's not really a latency issue, browsing certain sites just does not work whatsoever, other sites are perfectly fine, I drop my PPPOE connection and all appears to be great. As per the first tracert this is clearly not an issue inside my network/router. And it's not just this evening, this happens every night?

As mentioned, it's something we're looking at :)
The latency looks to be spiking outside of our network though, which can make things harder to track down.

What DNS servers are you using?

I was hoping someone could assist with the following issue For the past month or so, I have been experiencing what almost appears to be DNS related issues, certain sites don't load (news24 for eg. certain youtube videos. and plenty more. Usually dropping my PPPOE connection and reconnecting resolves the issues. It's becoming a bit of a nuisance and I was hoping someone could assist. It's just happened right now, and below is a tracert, before and after the PPPOE connection was reset. (N.B, I did not reboot my router).

This is happening every evening (Only cause I work during the day, and can't test.

Please someone help.
Bruce.
Afriguy it seems I am not alone?
Tigerminx, I have been having this routing issue to Mweb for the past 11 days.

YouTube is buffering one way, and latency in the east is very erratic. Never mind the Mweb network is also inaccessible.

Exactly the problem I'm having. Streaming certain YouTube videos lately is frustrating to say the least. Glad I'm not alone.

Afriguy I use Afrihosts DNS servers 99% of the time. I tried Googles DNS for a day and experienced the same issue.

Thanks for confirming. Hopefully I'll have some feedback for you guys tomorrow morning once we've consolidated all of our test results and monitoring for the evening.
Please PM me your DSL username so I can better track the query.

I have sent a stack of tests almost evey night to critical care, first they denied any problems, and now they are investigating. Thank you for posting, maybe something will get done about it now. And YouTube, Facebook, news24.com, Mweb.co.za, dstv.com, are all serviced by the Mweb network. Where are you based? I am in Richmond KZN, and this problem is experienced across all 9 of my accounts.

Please continue to troubleshoot with our Critical Care team.
I gave up on Afrihost's so called 'critical care' this problem is no longer isolated, Tigerminx has confirmed this. I find your response reductive. I brought this issue up 12 days ago. And nothing has been done. You make me feel like I am wasting your time or something.

Sorry to hear you feel that way.
A few users brought up results with solid test data off the bat, which I further tested last night and opened a call with our NOC team today. This then brought on the monitoring and further tests from my end.

I'm afraid it's impossible to trend something on an isolated post with not that much detail. On top of this, there's a clear communication channel between yourself and Critical Care which needs to be used. If you'd prefer, we can troubleshoot on the forums but this hasn't seemed to have worked in the past.

Our Critical Care is, and will continue to keep you updated on your case.

When the problem first started, I posted all the exact information critical care required. Before and during trace routes, dns servers, location, even full url's that were inaccessible and source of video streams giving trouble, don't get me wrong, I am not looking to pick a fight, but you yourself brushed me off, and in a nutshell you told me to open a ticket, as there was nothing you could do. which I did and still nothing has come of it. Don't believe me, go back and look at my posts from 12 days ago, and the posts with all the tests after that. No failure on my part of trying to bring a problem to Afrihost's attention.

Some pretty bad results tonight. Cannot even do android updates at all.

I think this is what Micham is referring to????
If it is this, then the only time you will see discounts like this, is when you sign up anytime other than the 1st of the month. If you signed up to a 50GB package on the 15th, you will be discounted for only using it for 2 weeks. So basically a pro rata data and cost.

If the user has been discounted again the next month, then clearly its just an error on the AH side, which they have clearly by the looks of it acknowledged, but in good faith gave the client the discount. I could be wrong but the way im reading it.

*edit* is there a way to see a bit of your invoice?

Huh... I have no idea why MyBB would route internationally... Maybe because of Cloudflare?

That shouldn't affect the Android updates though. Were there any other services that were affected?

Don't know why MyBB would route via London at night and then back to Joburg during the day. AG is this a routing issue?

If it is this, then the only time you will see discounts like this, is when you sign up anytime other than the 1st of the month. If you signed up to a 50GB package on the 15th, you will be discounted for only using it for 2 weeks. So basically a pro rata data and cost.

If the user has been discounted again the next month, then clearly its just an error on the AH side, which they have clearly by the looks of it acknowledged, but in good faith gave the client the discount. I could be wrong but the way im reading it.

*edit* is there a way to see a bit of your invoice?

The invoice I received is R498 and the price on their website is R465. This problem happened last month as well, in fact is been going on everytime I make changes to my packages, they have always had to manual apply the discount, everytime I call in. I have about five credit notes. As to where the R498 come from I have no idea as their website clearly states that a bundled price on 50gb 10mb is R465. This is the same price I paid last month after I complained, the problem is recurring. As you can see on here I am not really getting the solution. Maybe someone who is on the same package can post and tell me how much are they being charged. The e-mail from their accounts, which referred me to the same link posted in this post says that there do not have a 50gb 10mb packages, but last month I was not told of this. So what is actually advertised on their website is different from what they are actually billing. That in a nutshell is my issue and unfortunately it is not bing addressed. That ticket in the e-mail is also closed as you can see it.
