Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

Status
Not open for further replies.
So in 2009, R 29/GB on DSL was considered a special. Fast forward to 2016, unlimited internet is R 1. Like whaaaaaat?

I've asked the Network guys very nicely how much data we use monthly, I'm not sure if this is something we're comfortable sharing publicly though. It's a lot though, obviously ;)
IPC is generally run with a higher level of importance of the throughput availability in Gbps as opposed to overall usage.

EDIT: Our Network team says "Computer says no"
Sorry dude :(

Odd, not seeing this latency appear on monitoring.
Did you grab a ping to bras.afrihost.com too?

That is 21-23ms as show on the VOX ping, but here it is now.

Looks good there. If you're running your Vox account now maybe keep it connected for an hour or two to see if things normalise from there.

I have seen this high latency on Afrihost since Last week already. It does not change, in the evening after 6pm it gets worse in the sense that YouTube has to constantly buffer. Very annoying so I immediately switch to my other accounts.

Switching accounts essentially resets the ports which can normalise latency. If you're on your Vox account now, maybe look at sticking on it for tonight to see if the results are replicated there too.

As a comparison, here's a test I just ran on my personal connection :)

So strange, I just switch back to the Afrihost account and the IP and routing changed.

So what was changed on the Afrihost side in the last few minutes since I reported this?
It has been showing these high latency and routing since last week on Afrihost. I have switched between VOX and Afrihost accounts for days now monitoring this.
And now that I report it, some minutes later the routing changed!?

Were your previous MTRs to youtube.com specifically? If so, you were probably hitting the old cache.
The above results look good!

I haven't changed anything though :)
Keep me posted on how things go.

Yes was to youtube.com, youtube.co.za, google.com, google.co.za and was getting constantly this high latency, as if at some point the traffic was routed international and then back to jnb01s08-in-f14.1e100.net

But now after I reported this here at the forum, miraculously it changed moments later, :crylaugh: and I was monitoring this since last week when Gian made the email about Double Cap, and so on.

Hehe, I really wish a routing change was that quick ;) Could have been a few though, that a new IP probably resolved.
Routing changes are reviewed thoroughly, so I can't just give our Network guys a shout to quickly change it, I also don't know your DSL username so I can do something account specific ;)

Anyway, glad things have normalised. Let me know how things go.

This is how things route now;

The first 1 was the original IP just to check and the rest is now the "updated" routing.
