Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

Morning guys

Sincerely sorry about the issues on Saturday which affected clients in the South and Eastern regions.
This was due to damaged fibre cables, which saw latency increases and speed decreases. Our team managed to get the issue resolved fairly quickly with the help of our upstream providers.

I can confirm both IPC links are running as per normal.

The thread's been quite busy, I'll do my best to run through each post this morning - but if there is something urgent please rather send it through via DM :)
 
On a note around Google services/ YouTube - I've seen a few posts for this.
We need to compile standard data for our Network team to check, so if you are having issues with YouTube/ Google specifically, please confirm the following:

Suburb/ region
Account type
Video URL
Resolution being watched
DNS servers being used

Not good at all this morning 8Mbs Business Uncapped.

Latency's very high here, did you manage to grab a traceroute too?
 
You know the thing that gets me.

I go to the afrihost website, look at network status, all green, search for western cape. Everything ok. Then I call support, 14 in queue, hang up. Ok, something's up. Check network status. Then I find this thread.

I've tested other accounts and it is definitely afrihost experiencing issues. Read thread.. been going since 6 am. More than 3 hours of ****ty net for afrihost users. Check status, all green. This can't be true. Surely a cache issue? Hard refresh. All green.

To not update your network status, Afrihost, is probably one of the most idiotic things I can conceive of. Instead of using your network status feature you waste your customers' time (and air time) and get them all riled up and talking about abandoning your deteriorating network.

Gian, if you're real and listening and not too busy composing spam emails, do everyone and yourself a favour and teach someone at your company how to update the network status. I'm sure someone there has the skills to do it. Then, and here's the really smart part, when there is a network issue, get someone to put it up there on the network status as if you were a professional company.

Very sorry about the issues over the weekend, we do our absolute best to notify everyone of current issues.
A notice was added to the site as well as SMS's sent out to affected clients.
 
Before you introduced this "R1 steal", i upgraded my line from 10mb to 20 mb and the upgrade was successful. We then recieved an e-mail from Gian about the R1 package change.

So I though i try things out. I then upgraded to a 20mb business package since I will only be charge R1 and I can downgrade to my normal package before the 23rd of the month.

Today I wanted to downgrade to my normal package as the business uncapped is really not making any difference. Clientzone says I can only make 2 package changes in one month.

WTF!!! so now I am faced with a possible R2K bill end of the month? I don't want this package and surely I didn't even know that I am going to be locked into this package. Please attend to this and downgrade me to my normal package 50 plus 50 GB.

I'm happy to make the changes for you. It's quite concerning that speed changes aren't making a difference though - are you allowing some time for the line to regrade correctly?

Right..lets see if i can get help here...due emails to support dont work as they have no idiee what going on around them it seem.

I play battlefield 4...ebv server, i tried the test free acc and i ping 44. Cancel my other isp one due they ping 58...

Bought 40gb acc capped from afrihost...but that capped acc also ping around 56 ... but if i log in with free test acc....i get instantly 44, does not matter what time of day, how frequent i log in..it stays 44.

Did a trace route on both...did send support it, it 2 difference routes and clearly can see what hops the ping differ.

Any one else can test this also for me ur side?

Any employee at afrihost who can understand this? (Bradley was most clued up one till now)

I decided to go with one of the guys' advice and cancelled the business account and signed up for a new user account. I am now having issues with ID verification. Apparently the system keeps rejecting my copies. I also had some issues with download speed over the weekend, I was syncing on 20 MB on my router but speed test was showing maximum 1.20 MB upload speed. Not sure if that had to do with the fact that one account was being cancelled and the other needed verification. I didn't cancel the line though, I bundled up the new account with the existing line. I will PM my account number for you to check

I'm not sure adding a new account, under a new email address is the solution though.
I'll take a look at your PM in a few mins and reply there with more detail.

Was there just a DNS outage for a few minutes? Could not get anywhere, but my existing interwise session stayed connected. So not a connection drop.

it will be online.. i hate going into shops and malls. Im not even sure where those people get money at this time of the month, or why they are not working lol
Is there a specific brand you buy? :)
 
Could my "connected" but nothing happens problem be router related (it's a ancient little thing that refuses to die) or is it more likely a afrihost problem?

Not seeing any connectivity related problems from our end, drop me a PM with your DSL username and a time that you've seen this drop?
