Afrihost New Network Feedback - Part 2

While I'm getting excellent latency and connection speeds on Speedtest as I always have been (I live a couple of blocks away from main Telkom exchange in Durbanville, Cape Town), ever since Afrihost launched their "Free Time" I, along with other friends in the area on Afrihost, have been getting poor service levels on sites such as YouTube.

Many YouTube videos won't load at all. It seems popular videos, that would assumingly be cached locally, works great as always – but lesser popular vides and live streams that assumingly streams from international servers are either slow or just don't load at all.

I have ruled out a problem in the area by testing with a different ISP so therefore it must be Afrihost related. As I said, the exact same thing is experienced by four other people in my area with Afrihost.

I haven't been able to watch Hulu using Unotelly and browsing has been attrocious these last 2 weeks used to be perfect. What's happening? Why have a 40mb line that only runs like a 2mb line? HD is useless

Yeah the last 2 weeks have really sucked,we wait for a "huge surprise" for two months,which most of us thought was possibly price cuts,since afri is one of the,if not most expensive isp's for cap data. We get double data two weeks ago and then the internet starts having hissy fits lol

Pay a premium for quality which we don't mind,but get poor internet service,customer support is great,but what does that help when the internet keep's bombing out.

I have a shared account that bought for my parents and my sister. Suddenly, my parents' account is dead. I'm at their place now, I put in my Telkom ISP details and it works perfectly. Put in the Afrihost details. Completely dead.

Yet my sister is still connected to this account and it works. Has there been a change on the way capped packages have concurrent connections? What can be the problem?

Not using any DNS servers (although I tried to use Google's 8.8.8.8 but no change). I'm syncing in on Speedtest at 17mbps and latency of 4ms.

As you can see, a connection is established – but no video content is being downloaded. I tried on PC, iPad, PS4 – same thing. As I said, with a different ISP on same router/number/location it works fine.


Bearing in mind that friends of mine including posters in this thread are reporting the same thing, I think it's quite evident you have an issue on your network.


I have also experienced similar issues at times as the poster above me ever since the day of the "Free Time" launch.

I don't think the concurrent connections would be causing any problems for your Capped account. Is the Afrihost account authenticating at least? Could you maybe PM me your ADSL details.

+1. Random deaths of youtube since 19:30.

In addition - gmail images aren't loading.

Cape Town. Capped. Afrihost auto-assigned dns.

I can't even load Youtube. Streaming goes to hell every night with Afrihost. This is nothing more than a lack of bandwidth.

YouTube works fine using other ISPs. I go back to connect to Afrihost, and it doesn't work. And yes, other streaming services have the same issue.

Since your reply additional people have commented to say they have the same issue with Afrihost (in addition to others from previous pages).

This has been going on for the last couple of weeks intermittently with several people I know and in this thread which you fail to recognize as an issue given the repeated pertinent feedback describing the same thing.

Given that if I use an account with other ISPs it works, I'm afraid I have no choice but to move service.
