Means that you aren't on a BRAS ESR - Your second hop responds as you are on older infrastructure.

Looks like your BRAS/exchange isn't on the new system and can't ping that IP. Can you run a regular traceroute becuase we should be able to see the second hop respond?

Thanks. Could you explain?

UPDATE: found this link
http://mybroadband.co.za/news/adsl/107730-what-telkoms-adsl-network-actually-looks-like.html

Our area is supposed to 40mb enabled shortly so surely it should be on new infrastructure?

It's really hard to say, some of the older exchanges were 40Mbps enabled before the new systems came into play. The only sure way to tell is if the second hop consistently times out on trace routes of if you can resolve to bras.afrihost.com

Looks to me like there is a huge variance in the second hop, between 13ms and almost 80ms. You should never see pings above 30ms but they should stay as close to 10ms as possible for good performance.

Do you get the same results on any ISP account you've tested with?
Yes. Unfortunately I do.

I have had my AH contract terminated because I have been unhappy with the inconsistent performance and have been very verbal about it.

I would just like to thank everyone on this thread that helped me with advice and testing methodologies. Especially Afriman and the CC team for their attempts to help get my line performing as it should. (And I am not trying to sound sarcastic, you guys really went out of your way for me)

All the best,
Richard

Hey Richard

As we expressed in our mail to you, this was not at all about being verbal about being unhappy but about the fact that you were clearly not happy with the service and product you were receiving. Having devoted our resources to you in the form of our Critical Care team and some of our core network people working in the background to improve your experience, I think it's clear that we reached a stage where we simply could not provide the experience that you are looking for, which you made clear on this thread. We just don't want to have any of our clients in that position, hence we mailed you to find the best way to move forward!

We absolutely and sincerely wish you the best for the future and I'd like to thank you for all the time you spent working with us and posting your experiences here on the forum. While we couldn't assist you in the end, you definitely helped us improve the new network and myself and the rest of the team are super grateful to you for your support.

All the best, mate :)

I understand your outlook, even though I have praised the network, I have also pointed out it has been inconsistent.

If every account of everyone that feels AH was not being consistent was cancelled in this manner, then I understand, but this is not the case, is it? ... It just comes down to the fact that instead of asking my honest opinion or taking into account that I have stuck around for months on this network regardless of performance, I was told to politely F-off by the CEO.

I understand it was not you and like I said, I will move on as requested.

Just all feels very unprofessional to me, but yeah.

Anyway, Thanks for the help once again, I did mail the CC team thanking them as well :)

:::EDIT:::

If Gian had just asked me, I would have been happy to stop posting here and would have dealt only with the CC team. I also would have been happy to wait and see if the issues could be solved. I mean I stuck around through worse than this when AH was really struggling.
