Afrihost New Network Feedback

Massive slowdowns again on basics like facebook, gmail, etc. after 8pm. Sent a bunch of tracepaths to afrihost support, but nothing out of ordinary or strange routing. Switching to google dns didn't help.
Speeds are fine on VOX capped and Afrihost 1gb capped account, so it seems suspiciously like shaping going wrong, even though I'm on a premium uncapped account...

I don't think this is a shaping issue, seems like some people are affected and others not and we're trying to recreate it on our side.

What DNS are you using generally? If it's auto, what DNS are you being assigned?

So right you were! Back on fast path profile and look at the ping improvement! From 42ms to 9ms. What a world of a difference!

Glad to hear things are better. If your line is steady, you should get better latency (and overall experience) on FastPath :)

Out of interest, if you ping facebook.com and mail.google.com, what IP address does it use? Also compare it again to when speed improves.
Mine haven't slowed down for the past 2 nights.
For Facebook I currently have 173.252.120.68. The other day when it was slow it was 66.220.158.68.

No such luck. Mine just switched to 173.252.120.68, but it's even slower than 66.220.158.68.

mail.google.com still on 216.58.223.5

Man I downloaded last night a 12GB file lol at 00:00 and only about 3.7GB's had completed by this morning :( was hoping in 6 hours it should have been done lol or am I asking to much

Aren't you on a 2Mbps line though? Or is it 4Mbps?

On 4Mbps your theoretical max is just over 1.5GB per hour (in very much ideal conditions) so 9GB in 6 hours is probably not too terrible :(

I would appreciate some insight here.
Since Monday line at work has been syncing at 6mb from the 8mb that we had for the last 2 years. We have an attenuation of 51 so 6 mb is fine but sites seem to be taking longer to load now. I tried out WOW EU to check the latency and it is about 40 ms higher that it was last year.

Latency is pretty horrible there. Can you please ping bras.afrihost.com for me?

I'm on an 8mbps line now. To be fair, I was doing the download over wifi and the walls do not play nice with WiFi connection

I'm on auto. Right now it's been on 169.1.2.1 and 169.1.2.2 for the past 13hrs, and the performance has gone from non-existent to fine again...

Definitely worrying, your ping to the BRAS should always be under 30ms, but closer to 10ms. Looks like it could be congestion on your exchange.

Do you get the same results when you try a different ISP network?

Definitely sounds like a fault needs to be logged here. :( Please PM me your account details and I'll sort you out!

Line still down. I find it strange that the line went down same time as it was transferred. Line was 100% just before. Is there nothing Telkom could have done during the line transfer that caused it to go down? How long before this is fixed? I have heard nothing from Telkom.
