Hello AfriPeople. :)

Are you able to obtain line stats like the one ghostR posted at post #937?
It immediately explained to Dianysis why he has such terrible connectivity and would probably help other customers as well.

By the way, my network is still awesome. :)

I'm afraid not. While select members of our team may have access to this, we can't make this info publicly available.
Congestion/ degradation is pretty easily picked up with the tests we've been running with Dianysis though. We can query whether or not an exchange is congested, which I believe was done.

Hey LaraC! Unfortunately we don't have direct access to that sort of information, but we do have great relationships with people within Telkom and we can usually get pretty good feedback once we put in a request, however, as ghostR mentioned earlier, congestion is not an easy fix and is mostly down to Telkom's scheduled plans.

Also, you don't really need a fancy graph if the issue is already apparent on the traceroute! :p

A picture is worth a thousand words. :D

The explanation which accompanied the picture was also very informative. :)

:) Basically just an initial 1-3 sec buffering, then no buffer at all.

I'm only on a 2mb line, but my downloads speed was about 1.75mbps, and around 0.24mbps on the up, with a ping of around 30ms.

So roughly about 280kb/S on the down and about 29.4kb/s on the up. So my line is syncing just about right for a 2mb line I think?

So what do you think Afrifella? Look okay?

You have to post stats like that every time. It does help that you are right next to the POP. :D

Nice 50Mb line will do nicely hehe
I'm extremely happy with my 10Mbps line and the performance I get from Afrihost. It does whatever I want to do and does so very well. :)
Not tempted to change anytime soon.

But but but, fiber's sposed to be not only better but cheaper than DSL. And cheaper is always a good reason to switch, no?

As they say, cheaper is not always better. You pay for quality, but as in all things, there will be issues on the fibre side.

I think people are wanting to move away from DSL to quick. Its more to do with the quality presented to them, rather than wanting to move. If you not getting the satisfaction from DSL, your next option is to move to fibre, but there are no guarantees that it will work exactly the way you had hoped it would.
