As they say, cheaper is not always better. You pay for quality, but as in all things, there will be issues on the fibre side.

I think people are wanting to move away from DSL to quick. Its more to do with the quality presented to them, rather than wanting to move. If you not getting the satisfaction from DSL, your next option is to move to fibre, but there are no guarantees that it will work exactly the way you had hoped it would.

280kB/s? Not sure that is theoretically possible on 2Mbps, but 1.75Mbps would definitely be happiness on that line speed :)

But but but, fiber's sposed to be not only better but cheaper than DSL. And cheaper is always a good reason to switch, no?

I don't think fibre is all about cheapness. It's also meant to replace the ailing copper infrastructure that is creating so much of a maintenance and performance headache for clients and providers alike.

We don't know enough about the support side of fibre - I guess that is coming. I imagine it comes with it's own unique challenges and technical stuff. But I do think new cabling, new technologies, etc will be mostly good news for clients :)

No on Ookla, if I look at it in terms of kb/s it shows that, so I'm not sure what that means. Im guessing that 1.75mb would relate to that in kb/s. But maybe some Smart individual will explain that

What do you mean my tests are showing nothing obvious?

You realize those speeds are being taken from my 10meg line right?

I mean I don't see an obvious cause to your slow speeds. Latency seems OK, etc. We definitely have capacity, other clients posting here are demonstrating that speeds are good on the network at the moment. I think would definitely like to test your line further and see whether it can perform consistently.

PM me, let's get a consultant in touch with you and see if there is any way to improve your experience.

So 1MB (megabyte) is 8 Mb (megabits). 1 Megabit is 1024 kilobits. So 1.75Mbps equals 1792kbps (out of 2048kbps) which is excellent, considering Telkom take an overhead on the line for management.

aah okay, im not clued up with bits, bytes etc.. although its early morning and i do need to get a BIT of coffee, and a byte to eat :D

I'm having trouble with Simfy.co.za. It's not loading properly and things are timing out. The problem is that I don't know if it's Simfy themselves or Afrihost internet. In the past it has always been Afrihost so I'll start there. Anyone else having problems with Simfy?

Simfy working perfectly for me on this side. What are your general stats like?

Hi AfriMan, speed tests are very good this morning. I do seem to have some timeouts on certain sites but will monitor it and let you know.

Also see if simfyafrica.com sees any difference :)
Are you also having issues on the app?
