Afrihost New Network Feedback

I'm also getting constant connection drops. Extremely frustrating.

There were a few changes made last night and we saw a few clients reports drops, also lost connection a few times myself. Things should have stabilised though - seemed fine after the first couple of drops or so :(

Speeds were horrible last night. I eventually fell asleep waiting for Youtube to buffer 360p content.
Come this morning, and speeds are still pretty crappy.

We're definitely planning to improve performance. There are just a few changes that need to be implemented :)

Hi afriman. I heard that static IP's will be able to be set up via pppoe instead of L2TP on the new network. Which would make it quite a bit easier for all of us.
Is this true? If so, when would it be implemented?

Yes, the new static IP system uses normal PPPoE and you have a private IP on your router but your public IP is translated via NAT to a static IP. You can use any router since all the translation happens on our side, which makes it super easy to use.

We've tested this with SIP, CCTV, VPN and other services using static IP and it works really well :)

Is there a simple setup manual I can follow? Or do I simply disable dynamic and enter my static IP?

Is this change already live?

Also had some slower speeds last night and intervals of zero throughput.
Router doesn't show a disconnect though, there's simply no data throughput.

We're definitely looking to have a smoother experience - there were unfortunately some changes that had to be made on our side.

You should have received a mail with the new static IP. You would just need to disable L2TP on your router and then replace the static IP in your settings (from the connecting devices, not on the router).

Morning Guys

We're picking up an issue affecting the JHB region. all other regions should be fine at the moment.

I'll post more updates as I receive them.

Today being 23rd of the month ........

Apologies for the derailment, but temptation was too great

I just hope the link works :p

PS: To be honest, it is not all bad. I can definitely see an improvement on my end and one can only hope that the "teething problems" are resolved soonish. It certainly has been while since some of us that are experiencing problems have had the privilege to partake in "pure internet joy" Hopefully patience on our side and persistence on AH side will get us through these dark days at Blackrock :p

Sure! what is another month between friends

I have this sneaky suspicion that the loyal AH clients are all closet masochist - don't know why I have this feeling though :p

PS: Had to use an image in my previous post, as the Youtube link I found seemed a bit wonky :(

Can you please post a traceroute as well? As far as I know, CT should be good now :(
