I think you're missing the point here...

Why did it go bonkers (multiple times) to begin with? I easily had this about 10 times during the course of Sunday... It's as annoying as ***** to have to loose all your connections / ssh sessions the entire time, just to have them drop AGAIN as soon as everything is reconnected.

MVP Right here ...

I fully agree, the fact it returns to normal is not a great thing ... This **** should not happen !!!!

What the heck is going on! Websites all around are offline (yet the South African based cloudflare cached version is available). Literally every third website I visit has this issue?

Is there international traffic loss at all?

Z

Not that I was made aware of. I didn't do much testing yesterday cos I was studying for an exam.

Any reason why Google and YouTube are routing internationally from Cape Town and not locally?

We peer with a local Google cache at each of our IPC locations, so we pull local content wherever possible. That should have been working correctly, I wasn't made aware of any issues with that. I'll check with the team on this.

Seeing the same on our test we just ran :(

UPDATE: Just checked and it looks like traceroute is going international but actual is being pulled locally from local cache nodes.

In another thread it was said that they have already been moved to the new network.
It didn't affect my network experience as it is still great.

Axxess have not fully moved over to the network. They have moved over some of their custom realms and their main realm should be moving over soon.

Yup - same experience here. Started looking around for a new ISP, just don't know where to go, because it seems everyone is having some kind of issues. Mate of mine on MWEB is complaining. OW won't see me, VOX is a maybe - who else?

Tired of this shet.

Sorry to hear that you're leaving us. I really hope we can chat about this, I think we are definitely seeing better performance in general. If you are having issues, we're happy to troubleshoot to find out what might be affecting your overall experience :(

In every traceroute I perform the 3rd hope always times out.
Can anyone tell me if this is a Telkom issue or an AH issue?
Thanks.

My 2nd hope latency looks pretty decent at the moment.
But browsing and downloads in general are rather slow.
YouTube seems okish at the moment running at around 2mbps last time I tested about 15 minutes ago.

That is weird. 2nd hop definitely seems like the BRAS, so you shouldn't be seeing that 3rd hop time out. Any idea what your TTL settings are on your traceroute?

That's not good enough. I'm not going to have a fibre connection unless I can hold the ISP to 100Mbps connectivity. I arranged a switch to Crystal Web from next month for this reason, as my fibre installation is nearly complete.

Afrihost officially supports up to 40Mbps. What recourse would I have if my speeds weren't close enough to 100Mbps, if they never offered to provide more than 40Mbps in the first place?

I think that any ISP is going to use the same terms and provisions for Fibre as ADSL. While there is more control and less chance of service degrading on fibre, there are still lots of factors that can ultimately affect final speeds, especially with multiple infrastructure providers like Smart Village, Telkom, Vumatel, etc. Absolutely guaranteeing speeds would be problematic.

It's something on your network - and it only happens to certain destinations...

I've have been "randomly" getting throttled on my 10mb Uncapped Business account, it varies but I've been throttle to 4mb, 2mb and even 1mb.

After dealing with support and sending them all sorts of info they requested they have just told me "Please note that I've run a session auditor on your account in order to refresh your connectivity profile. Please reboot your router at your earliest convenience and re-test your connection." Does anyone know what this session auditor is about?

The session auditor is a feature we use to reset your Radius profile and ensure that any issues which may affect your account (authentication, shaping profile, data allocation) are refreshed to the latest setting.

Sounds like we need to test a little more here. Firstly, are you definitely not using Business Optimisation?

Still someting not right with DSTV Streaming. Could barely get 1Mbps throughput on the Rugby and now also on the F1.
Youtube giving full line speed.
tracert also normal.

Sounds like it may have been demand on the content provider's side - we saw a lot of people jumping on to watch the rugby. I watched it old school on SABC 2.

+1, Also wait to see performance after Axxess gets moved over as well.

We've provisioned plenty of capacity with Telkom - a very significant upgrade from what we had in total from MTN. Seeing as we're moving the same user base over, this is definitely expected to be sufficient for our current needs and we have made provisional plans for growth (in terms of additional IPC) based on projected growth of clients and demand.

I have a dynamic DNS service running on my network, but for about a week now it seems to be down. After further investigation it looks like my external IP issued by Afrihost is not ping-able over the internet. Afrihost please explain. Are you still issuing unique IP addresses or are we sitting behind some proxy service?

We use NAT to translate your private IP to a public Static IP address, which means that externally your public IP should work as well as a static IP should.

Could you please drop me a PM so we can see that you are using the correct IP and which service seems to be giving you that error?

Wow. Fixed line isp natting you?

That's just.... I can't even.

OK let me chime in here a bit. It's a banner, which DJ... himself said needed to be reworked. Your argument is based on an assumption, while Justin's is based on a product description. For all we know that could be for a special Business FTTH account that goes for R100/GB.

Can we maybe move this discussion over to Crystal Web's thread? I am sure that DJ and co would love to offer their input ;)

We definitely need to run some tests with you. We monitored your username for a bit over the weekend and we definitely did not see any shaping present.

Can you PM me with a convenient time that you'd like to test today and we'll monitor your traffic as you test?

I can only doing testing from 18:00 tonight

Well it is not transparent from the outside for the last week. I am not able to ping my ip. I am not able to access my local network remotely using a VPN.

Definitely should not be an issue with our new system, we have tested VPN specifically with a entry level router and all services should work.

Have you definitely disabled L2TP on your side?

The same happen to me on Sunday
