I asked last week about canceling my account because I'm moving away. Was just wondering if I downgrade to a 1 gig free account. For the rest of the month will my account still be business uncapped and only from Jan 1st will it be free 1 gig account?

anybody know, if paying with a Credit Card, what i select? Savings or Transmission? lol :D

I want to change from Debit to Credit Card for payment

I want to change from Debit to Credit Card for payment

Savings Account

This offers you a basic banking service with which you can make purchases and withdrawals. Usually you can also access your savings account using the bank's smartphone app or website. You will typically get a debit card linked to the savings account which you can use at ATMs and in shops. I don't think you can use these debit cards (backed by VISA Electron or Mastercard Maestro) for internet shopping, but FNB offers a VISA card on their Smart savings account, which is a cross between a credit card and debit card. It works like a credit card in that you can use it for internet shopping, but like a debit card in that your purchase transactions are deducted from your savings account and the card offers no credit facility.

The name "savings account" is a misnomer. It pays very low, and in some cases zero, interest. The interest rate is usually lower than the inflation rate, so money is actually losing value in a savings account.

Cheque Account

I haven't written a cheque in years, not since the advent of electronic banking, but the distinguishing feature of a cheque account is that it comes with a cheque book. Also, usually, in order to get a credit card, you would need to open a cheque account first. Like credit cards, cheque accounts also usually provide a credit or overdraft facility. And the banks like to provide a whole host of add-ons to cheque accounts, such as travel insurance and garage cards. The latter works like a debit card, but only for fuel. These days you can also use a credit card for fuel purchases.

Because of the credit facility that comes with a cheque account and a credit card, these accounts are required (I think) to build a credit record.

Usually you earn zero or close to zero interest on a cheque account.

Transmission Accounts

This is an old type of account. I doubt that any of the banks still offer new transmission accounts. Practically it functions very similar to a savings account, and is essentially a transacting account, i.e. an account to pay money into, withdraw money from, etc.

So I assume you want to use savings account.

Go to ClientZone and click on Billing. Select Manage payment details and add a new payment method. Your options will be Debit or Credit card. :)

so non of the A.F ppl are online. does the uncapped after hours, count for the prepaid guy or are we left on the sidelines?

Yes, all data between 00:00 and 06:00 does not count towards your capped DSL data. :)

Did you restart your router and set the DNS servers to their default settings?

I'd like to know what the hell is going on between cpt-rx2.ip.adsl.co.za and cpt-net1.ip.adsl.co.za.

Notice this ping map when on Afrihost:
Afrihost to Afrihost.com.jpg

Now notice the same ADSL line on Web Africa:
Web Africa to Afrihost.com .jpg

Both traces are to www.afrihost.com, but on Afrihost there's a consistent jump in latency between jump 3 and 4 aka cpt-rx2.ip.adsl.co.za and cpt-net1.ip.adsl.co.za.

This nonsense started somewhere on Sunday...

Are you in Durbanville? There is a super congested rack there at the moment I was getting the same speeds you are getting till Telkom moved me to a different rack on Saturday.

Would that move by Telkom, not be the cause of your issues? Check if Telkom can reset your port, and see what the results are

Overberg area. Geting 1.3mb max it feels like it dips throughout the day,not sure if this could be due to festive season since a lot more people are in my area now, especialy in my street.

No my issues are only when I am connected using the Afrihost account, the web africa account is clear sailing.

People short day at work for me today, i am out of here. I wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Joyous and happy new year. Safe travel on the roads
