My line at home is still crap with afrihost account.

Telkom guest account speedtests look much better in comparison, happening way too often lately

Sorry to hear :(
The guest account isn't always 100% accurate - do you have any test results you can paste up here either way?

Usually get a good 3.5 -> 3.8 Mbps on the line but since yesterday its been unbearable

That's a lot of latency on the telkom guest account and quite high jitter for being within Cape Town.
EDIT: To compare on my 10Mbps line:

EDIT 2:
Tracert:
Code:

It's the Afrihost account, cant switch over to telkom guest since I'm remoting into my machine from work

Would you be able to show the line stats and ping bras.afrihost.com?

EDIT:
tracert
Code:
Pinging bras.afrihost.com [155.239.255.250] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 155.239.255.250: bytes=32 time=23ms TTL=63
Reply from 155.239.255.250: bytes=32 time=23ms TTL=63

Reply from 155.239.255.250: bytes=32 time=24ms TTL=63

Ping statistics for 155.239.255.250:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 23ms, Maximum = 24ms, Average = 23ms

That looks like a problem between your home and (including) the exchange.

Yeah but when I called yesterday they insisted the line looks fine.

Ever since they stole our cables we've been downgraded from 10Mb to 4Mb and nothings been stable

The line sync and throughput may look good, but the latency doesn't :(
Have you tested a backup ISP to see if the experience is replicated there too?

What are your line stats?
My line stats have been degrading lately, only have 6.8dB SNR @ 10Mbps when a month ago I had 8.9dB.
Code:
Uptime	38Days 14hrs 55min 24sec
Time connected	33Days 10hrs 15min 10sec
Modulation type	G.992.5-A
Actual rate (up)	1020 kbps
Actual rate (down)	10236 kbps
Data transfered (sent)	0 kB
Data transfered (received)	0 kB
Output power (up)	12 dBm
Output power (downstream)	17.7 dBm
Line attenuation (up)	23 dBm
Line attenuation (downstream)	42.7 dB
Noise margin (up)	6.4 dB
Noise margin (downstream)	6.8 dB

This has also been my longest uptime ever :erm:

Johnatan can you delete this post please or remove the Telkom speed test bit in my post? :)

You'd better hope Rickster doesn't read this post or he'll tell you to reboot your router. :D

Oh are you suppose to reboot the router ;)

He said it himself

Reboot it and you will see a difference in line stats.

I recommend a solid 30 min reboot (off for 30 Min)

Prove me wrong.
