Can you restart your modem quickly and then test to see if there is any improvement in the performance.

Sorry, Tapatalk didn't send me a notification and I only saw your message now. The internet was fine all day until just now when the disconnects started again.

Latency to Google is crazy high. This was taken after a reboot and I checked with a trace route app on my phone:

During the last few evenings, even when the connection was up on Afrihost it felt like crap due to the latency. I'm all out of backup accounts so I'm hoping the Google DNS will make the needed difference.

What did you guys do to my connection earlier?

Anything and everything that could be reset, was reset.

It looks like something strange was happening there with the routing, I've passed that onto our Team to look into.

Changing the DNS did nothing. Connection died after a few minutes and will likely die again soon.

It died while I was running a trace route:

My issue has the two main hallmarks of exchange congestion: high latency early in trace routes and evening issues. However, these issues disappear completely on my ISPAfrika and Web Africa accounts. Not even a hint of any problem on them.

Yeah... That's very strange... Especially the amount of ICMP traffic that is being lost. Would you mind if I ask our Critical Care Team contact you so that we can work through what is going on here.

Please do. I've had about 10 disconnects in the last half hour.

No disconnects for a while now. Please stay this way...

Aah cool. Haven't heard of them before, or maybe just asleep lol

If you get Telkom FTTH you'll all about them very quickly. We've discussed them extensively on MyBB as they're the only ISP that can provide just a FTTH line at a good price and leave you free to use another ISP for your data. The reason I have a backup account with them is that the FTTH package is still technically a bundle as it includes a 10GB account.

Thanks, will keep this in mind should fibre ever come our way. :)

Hope your disconnects stay away now.

Thanks for the update, our Critical Care Team will be contacting you directly, I still want them to check what happened so that we can do our best to avoid this happening again.

So, ISPAfrika, they run on the Telkom FTTH infrastructure? They've got some very good pricing!

Nope. They're very much still happening.

ISPAfrika provide fibre services mostly for networks other than Telkom's, but they do offer Telkom FTTH. I went with them precisely because of the terrific pricing. The data is insanely expensive unfortunately, although the quality of the bandwidth is very good based on my experience with my 10GB account of theirs. Nowhere else have I experienced such incredibly low latency. Afrihost and other more normally priced ISPs aren't enough off the mark though to justify R1000pm for 200GB. The difference is small enough to not really care.

I couldn't even send this message when I wanted to, as my connection died again. It truly can't stay up for more than a few minutes. I have work due for tomorrow morning that requires an internet connection to work on and I've already lost nearly 2 hours trying to fix these issues. I'm going to tear all my hair out at this rate. Not to mention that the family is going to be yelling for a new backup account by 7pm at the latest.

Busy enjoying the last few hundred megabytes of my ISPAfrika account. And browsing for the easiest prepaid data options.

Is someone going to phone me any time soon?

I haven't received a call yet from Critical Care...

Not a single slowdown or disconnect while on my ISPAfrika account. Have to switch back to Afrhost now though as I have <50MB remaining.

Our Critical Care Team will be in touch as soon as possible. Realistically, this will only be tomorrow morning as they do not work 24/7. :(

I see. The connection is staying up, which is a huge improvement, but I'm getting complaints from the living room that HD streaming is buffering like crazy atm.

That is very disappointing considering that you have such a fast connection and mine streams HD without any problem.
