Please don't take offense but that isn't all good considering you are on a 20 mbps line. I am on a 4 mbps line and I get +- 400 KB/s when everything is running well.
No offense, because it was still climbing and was maxing at around 1.5mb/s

To the people complaining about torrent speeds on the business uncapped packages - you did notice on the product page that it states that that bandwidth priority is given to "business" traffic?

I'm willing to put money on the fact that AH doesn't consider P2P torrent traffic to be business traffic - so it's no wonder that other protocols are getting prioritised over your torrent traffic.

Hey AfriPerson - any chance you can try see how far Telkom is in sorting out my absolutely dead adsl? I will pm you my number and fault reference if you are willing to assist.

Business accounts have an option to allow or disallow p2p traffic, the odd thing is on my account during business hours p2p works, from about 19:00 to 22:00 every night except last Friday, torrents stop, all seeds disappear, and then after 22:00 come back. This is extremely strange.

AH is most likely prioritising traffic on their end, which isn't strange at all given that the business uncapped product page states that this is the case.

2 - Shaping:*
Home Uncapped packages are subject to throttling should a user have reached their monthly*threshold*and our network is under strain. Premium Uncapped packages are not subject to throttling or monthly thresholds, and will enjoy full speed real-time services under all normal circumstances, but may be subject to shaping of downloads should the network be under strain. Business Uncapped packages are not subject to throttling, shaping or monthly thresholds - but do however come with a user controllable feature via ClientZone to prioritise non-p2p traffic on their account to ensure business-critical services always get the highest priority.

So have I been misunderstanding this the whole time - I was under the unimpression that the client can choose to de-prioritise p2p using the CZ feature as I am also on Business Uncapped?

I have been having the same issues as PurSpyk!!. Mine is just on Usenet at the exact same times between 19:00 and 22:00. Outside of those time it runs at full speed. Between those times it crawls to a halt. Even Afrihost's own news server is basically dead in that time

As per Dianysis comment regarding shaping, there should be no throttling, shaping or monthly thresholds on Business Uncapped packages. That is not the case. Checking via other ISP account and downloads flies.

I have also sent traces etc to Afrihost and everything has been sent to the network teams. But, then everything is slinet after that. Not a word from Afrihost unless I complain again. This is exactly the same symptoms that occurred last year before the big FUBAR.

My question is previous months my download ratios was very low. This month is was extremely high after a loss of a hard drive and a redownloading games, patches etc. To me it seems that because of this, there is a monthly threshold rule being applies by throttling services between times.

This cannot be random as other customers also affected at the exact same times.

Thanks for confirming this, I get lonely when I am the only one with issues, but if this happened at random times then one could possibly say its a glitch, but if its almost the same time everyday, then its a system put in place to stop downloading. Simple fact, I would have been far more relaxed if this was actually admitted, or if it was done in error. But denying what is obviously happening gets under my skin. I have therefore escalated this, and I lets hope we get to the bottom of this. I must say Oscar from AH has been very helpful so far.

As promised, here is some speed tests done tonight:

From Blizzard EU:

and torrents - flying as usual:

PS: Capped account on 2 Meg line

Question any idea why download from Blizzard remains constantly slow?

Thanks for posting!

We're looking into the Battle.net downloads, there definitely seems to be some inconsistency, you should be seeing at least the sort of speeds that you are getting on the other downloads.

They can be IMO.

They are pretty consistent for me with this setup for my line stats (run the wizard):

If I do 1 at a time, set global and per torrent connections to 450 and limit upload to 10 kay below theoretical, I can max my 12mb line assuming the torrent has a ratio of more than 1.

Torrents are fine for testing speeds as long as their are enough seeds online and sharing the file as you point out. :)

I've definitely noticed more consistent speeds with only one active torrent running at a time as well.

Good day

Please correct this billing. I have transferred my line to Afrihost from Telkom and bundled my product. Why am I still been charged the full amount on the dsl line.

Please correct this invoice and charge me R388.47( as per your website) and not R418.00. I am on a 20GB and 8MB line speed. And yes the product is bundled in clientzone but it seems this was ignored by your accounts department. Please rectify this before you run a debit order as this is a bundled product.

Hi!

Can you please PM me your details so that I can look into this for you.

Um, Ok.
How are Afrihost going to know who you are?
No account number?
I would suggest you call them directly.
This is a feedback thread not an accounts department.

We're here to help, if it is a network issue, or an accounts issue, we'll get it looked into. :)

Still seeing packet loss on the 3rd & 4th hop. AH can we get an update on this?

Morning!

Are you still seeing the packet loss on hops three and four? It looks like the network switches may be dropping ICMP packets, in theory this shouldn't be affecting your traffic, but we need to a make very sure about this.
