Genie whats the likely outcome if i had to re sign up for the mobile deal? Would i miss out on the 10GB data? Im assuming there was a time frame to qualify

I'm afraid the Special Offer ended in April. :(

Yeah, waiting on frogfoot to roll out here, the municipality is just acting up with wayleaves and stuff and not allowing micro-trenching until there's a feasability test done for it. Check out the table view fiber thread.

Yep and that's why a lot of people want to leave.

Wow... That seems like a tedious and drawn out process. Our Municipality just dug the ground once and laid large pipes, Fibre providers can just run cables through that.

Any reason my Netflix streaming has gotten worse this week?, in fact at the moment it's not working at all, my internet is fine otherwise, the quality jumps between HD and 360p constantly while it was working, my Tv is plugged directly into the modem, the same happens to showmax when I use it but in that case its just my terrible wifi signal.

Hmm... Not aware of any general issues regarding Netflix. Are you having any issues with YouTube? What DNS settings are you currently using?

Youtube runs perfectly, not sure on DNS probably default, is there anything else that could cause this?

Speedtest is perfect.

Last Result:
Download Speed: 8660 kbps (1082.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 872 kbps (109 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 9 ms
Jitter: 0 ms

Could my modem be having issues?

Not sure if there is something going on lately or if Afrihost is just busier overall with more users joining the network. Last few days my 10MB, only in the evenings seems slower... Speedtest is 100% but trying to download anything in Origin fails, The Division has random lag, and it just feels slower even with Speedtest showing the line running full speed. Local seems to be fine, international just seems to be... odd.

Only this week so far where it felt... odd.

Funny that Battle.net news doesn't load but Diablo3 and HotS ping around 180 and do not lag but The Division does and the net just feels... slow. Bookface is taking longer to load than it should. It just seems like some international is wonky and other international is fine...

Yup something is definitely up, my steam store front won't load either.

One second my throughput is fine and next dead as a door nail. Router not reporting any disconnects. Using my spare router now - same problem.

[RANT] I must say I am not very impressed with my AH account for the last 3 weeks or so. P2p and Google play store updates are performing very poorly in the evenings - speeds are all over the place. Last night I tested with a Telkom account and got full speeds (and stable) all night long.
Tonight back to AH - speeds all over the place again. :( [/RANT]

I know I asked this question before, but wasn't quite satisfied with the answer plus my line was still with MWeb so they could have influenced it. Now that my line and data is with AH, let's try again.
Why is there such a big difference between the line sync speed my modem shows and the actual speed I see on speedtest.net ???
Currently my router page shows 0.508 up and 5.120 down and speedtest.net gives me 0.4 up and 3.97 down. I've been told the difference is because there will always be some losses due to overheads or something, but surely some losses due to overheads can't be as high as 30%?

Hi,
the difference there is fast path vs interleave.
fast path would sync you at 4Mbps, fast path at around 5Mbps. The reason for interleave is to have extra bandwidth for error checking, this is very useful for lines that are noisy, it does increase the latency though. Telkom sync you higher so you hit near 4Mbps on speedtests down.
Fast path has lower latency.

ADSL has overheads, these are around 10-15% of your line, so on a 4Mbps line you should be getting ~3.2 - 3.6Mbps real world. Same applies to upload.

I am a gamer, so I prefer fast path.

Looks like I broke Steam after my 300GB download:

Perfectly normal to have around 25% difference between theoretical maximum and real-life speed. You're only 20% below so count yourself lucky

This is exactly the same thing I have noticed and the reason for my previous post. It has only been the last week or two, where at night certain international speeds just tank.

Between 8pm and 10pm Teamviewer was a no go. Outlook.com was a no go. Bookface was so so. Origin wouldn't even start a download/update, steam was sluggish. The Blizzard App wouldnt load news but the games updated at full speed and ping was 100% for Diablo 3 and HotS, The Division was up and down, Warframe was 100%. It really felt hit and miss with certain international sites working 100% with no issues but a few others were like being on dial-up again. Borrowed the friends FNB details and the issues vanished.

This has only been an issue of late so something must be up somewhere... because around 11pm it literally vanishes. Cant be exchange congestion if another account works 100% with no slowdowns....
