+1So got home from a weekend away.
Tried a p2p file while being routed through an international vpn - can't even manage 50 KB/s.
I signed up with another isp to do some testing - full line speed.
AH, this is getting stale now.
EDIT: Google play store updates wonky on AH - on other isp all is fine. AH - please sort your network out.
In the evenings (7pm onwards) all popular services: gmail, Apple services, facebook, VOIP, torrents, whatsapp etc... become pretty much unusable on an otherwise very good 10mb uncapped connection. This has been going on for weeks.
I read and lurk here (a lot), follow twitter and I have used their email support options. This means I have seen and experienced the Afrihost approach of asking for more information, trace routed and private messages for customers with similar problems and I am not interested in pursuing that nonsense. It is just delay and obfuscation. Their support staff are either not informed or empowered to effect change or act as a deliberate firewall between Afrihost and their customers ("will pass that onto network", "need to investigate", "will monitor", etc...)
I came here to give feedback to other users and potential users: What used to be a great ISP option has either sold out or lost control of their network during peak hours and the service has deteriorated. The new network was supposed to be their saving grace and I waited patiently for it but, alas, things are still bad. Not as bad but still unacceptable. The whole thing feels like a con and even the service here feels like a corporate shill (think a slightly more eloquent version of Telkom).
As soon as my fibre option is available I am gone.
Everything was fine this morning.....

That doesn't seem to be getting any better!? Has Telkom been in contact with you at all?
Anybody else having issues tonight?
Torrents are running fine, but cant load any thing else ie browsing.

Good news I'm back online !!!, Appeared to be just a faulty connection not an entire cable..thanks for escalating the fault gents

Well, seems to be my router, I think it's dying. Up to 2 seconds delay when pinging it directly, also pinged from an ethernet connected device and it had the same problem. Great for it to happen just before exams when I need to download tutorials and upload project files
EDIT: had to resubmit this post for ~5 seconds as it dropped again. This is annoying.
I have not posted for a while. Been giving AH time to sort their crap, but I think I have had it.
Slow connection and continuos dc's has driven me to the edge. Had enough now. Sorry Afripeeps but I am out.
Will be cancelling my stuff asap.
Cheers.
This isn't pleasing

Can't even stream Netflix this morning. Running Netflix's new fast.com speed test on a 40MB DSL line gives me a max of 360 Kbps. Something is broken.
Max of 1Mbps on a 20Mbps line in durban
So did some more testing.
Sequence of events:
1. Tested a p2p file connected to international vpn on my AH business account - can't get more than 50 KB/s and very wonky.
2. Connect to my account with another isp and tested the same p2p file while using the same international vpn - full line speed and highly stable.
3. Connect to my 1GB free AH capped account (Critical Care had allocated me with some data for testing) and tested the same p2p file while using the international vpn - full line speed and a lot more stable than my AH business account.
4. Connected back to AH business account and back to crappy speeds/wonky speeds.
Same results also occur when not connected to international vpn.
SORT THIS OUT NOW. I have been with critical care now for over 2 weeks and no improvement. Come on.....
EDIT: Been chopping and changing between the different accounts and the results are the same as summarised above.
EDIT 2: Within the last 5 minutes the capped account is now performing like the business account in terms of wonky p2p speeds (whilst connected to international vpn) and international speeds. P2p speeds without vpn remain stable on the capped account. For now.........
EDIT 3: Account with other isp maxing out my line on everything thrown at it. Both with and without being connected to international vpn.
EDIT 4: The AH capped account seems to have stabilised again. The AH business account is still pretty dismal at the moment.
Sunday night.... Getting **** like this.
Internet very intermittent...
