Afrihost Plus pricing and details

I think what people should be asked is "If double data is not viable financially forever, then why is it viable (guaranteed nogal) with a bolt-on service.
If you want to know what'll happen after 31 Dec with double data, you just have to look to previous Afrihost actions.
I predict a reduction in gigs for you rands, for example 5gb +5gb mobile data will become 4+4gb.

The end of double data - It seems that I will have to start researching ADSL prices again.

I'm in the same boat. Don't think I can bare going back to the frustration that was uncapped.

So it's OK for them not to deliver on their promise? And we should all move ISPs every other month?

Yeah, it's purely a business transaction.

You pay them in good faith, if they do not deliver to your expectations you go somewhere else where you get the value for your money you deserve. I'm not sure what the issue is here?

If you keep paying someone every month, and they say "just wait it will be fixed soon" and a few months later it isn't, who is being stupid?

I am not in support of their current state of affairs here but my problem with them is not refunding people even right from that first month when the problems started. What you are suggesting is if there are problems don't ask questions don't demand the service just pack up and leave and give the next business your money (who potentially will have their own problems as well) and when there are problems there as well just pack up and leave and so on and so on and so on....A refund for no services rendered would sit right with me even when I leave I still need my money back

No, that crappy split system from WebAfrica should die and not be encouraged.

I'm quite happy with that system. Especially since the after hours data has been doubled. Granted, you have to bring your part and schedule downloads. It's really not that difficult when you realise that most big downloads aren't important enough to have immediately. For most other day-to-day stuff, the anytime data is generally enough.

They have made it quite clear there isn't any refunds if you are outside the 30 to 60 day money back promise.

You are more than welcome to complain and keep paying them money, no one is stopping you.

I am speaking from a consumer's point of view against this and on behalf of those who are still with AH and those who have left. I do not support the business practices of these companies and you too should not

I think the Axxess promo is also a limited time offer and double data may fall away. I couldn't see when the promo is set to end, but I'm sure they have it published somewhere.

At that point I just move on to where I can the data I need the cheapest - might just be back to AH who knows ?

There are no stupid ideas :)

I'm not sure I fully understand the idea though. Are you talking about a daily allocation package, without rollover? It's an interesting idea, but I think it would be very complicated for client's to manage. We'd then have a day to day agreement on one product where we prefer to work on month to month products. It's an interesting idea though, I'm sure it's got some wheels turning somewhere :)

Yeah. So for example say it costs the user R600-00 for 30gigs of mobile data a month. This works out to R20-00 a gig.

You could offer a monthly package that is capped at a gig daily for R500-00 a month. This works out to R16.67 a gig.

The differential here is roughly 5 gigs a month. In other words the user must lose out on 5 gigs of data a month for you to make a greater profit per gig than the original R600-00 deal.

Should all the users combined average be 800meg a day for the 30 days that would be 6 gigs differential per user at month end. You could then even offer/disregard the 31st of the month free essentially (On those months) and still make the same profit margin on 5 gigs differential while the user is only paying R500-00 a month. You're maybe just screwed for February :p

Then on rare days where 1 gig just won't cut it there is always a top-up or you could offer 1 gig safety net (Almost like a separate account) that rolls over every day of the month until used up for those days when users exceed the 1gig by a little bit. The user is already paying R100-00 less by choice for choosing this scheme.

All the user needs to know is 1 gig a day. Even if the back-end is complicated :p It won't be for everyone but I might consider it.

I average about 700-800 meg a day. Netflix is about 200 meg an hour at lowest setting. A game of DOTA 2 is 80-100 meg an hour. Plus some skype/youtube etc... And the game updates is mitigated by the 1 gig safety rollover or can just download those elsewhere.

Anyway it probably deserves much more thought than that. Just putting it out there :) Others probably use the Internet differently so difficult to say if they can manage on a gig a day.

No thank you.

I have to Agree. I prefer having 60gb anytime that works how it should, no capping, no throttling, etc. And then I have 120gb (if I am not mistaken) to use for my downloads. All my downloads are automated, 1 program looks for all my new downloads that I want and puts them in my download manager which is set to download from 12pm and then shutdown my PC at 6am.

Really isn't difficult, and any downloads I want urgently I just force the download. I would do this even on Uncapped because 1, I want full speed when I am home, don't want downloads taking all my bandwidth, rather do it when I sleep. 2, If you download during the day on Uncapped you get throttled so its not relli uncapped is it?

You see here is an example of why not everyone is the same.

For me 90% of my data usage is realtime. Streaming and gaming mostly. The odd 400meg game update is only once a week. I don't torrent (since I stream) and don't pay for big HDD space (And backup) :p The cloud takes care of that. So how would after 12pm data benefit me at all?

Yeah what people are missing is simply this:

100 anytime gigs for R199 is not sustainable, but webafrica's 60 (+120 after hours) for R199 is. If webafrica is finding 60(+120) sustainable, perhaps Afrihost could manage 70(+130) at R199.

I don't know about you, but i'd rather take 200 total gigs split between day and night for R199 than the new 100 gig anytime price of R199 + R99. Sure, it might be slightly more complicated, but it offers far more value at the end of the day.

It is already effort to track you monthly usage if you are running on the fringe of a capped package. To do this daily is too much admin. You will have to plan what you do when you do it in the confines of 24 hours. Internet should be effortless. You do what you want when you want especially if you pay a premium.

Posted this in another thread, adding it here.

Simfy Africa music streaming: full access to stream on desktop or mobile, which usually costs R60 per month (R49 if you’re an MTN customer). I don't want this or need this, R60 of uselessness
Free 500MB mobile data.I don't use Mobile Data, I have no phone contract, costs R58 per month
Double data all the time: continue receiving double data on Afrihost mobile or DSL packages, even after the promotion ends on 31 December 2014.This is the only thing I want
Permanent 2-for–1 topups: Usually a promotion which Afrihost said runs a few days a month, Plus subscribers will always have access to 2-for–1 data top-ups.I don't want this, I purchased enough Data to last me the month at the beginning of the month, if this has to do with Mobile Data, again, I have no mobile deal with you guys
Soft-capping on capped DSL: When your data cap runs out, your connection is instead throttled to 128 kilobits per second. This should be offered free of charge anyways, but again, don't need it since I shouldn't hit my cap.
Double turbo charges: Turbocharge lets uncapped DSL users avoid all shaping for a 60 minute session. Uncapped subscribers usually get 5 free Turbocharge sessions (300 minutes) per month, with the option to top up for a fee. Afrihost Plus subscribers get double the Turbocharge minutes every month. Double Turbo charge, I don't have an uncapped account, I don't want or need this service.

You see, I really don't want this service, rather make your double data promotion permanent, I am not going to use any of the other items you have bundled in it, worth over R120 of nothing for me. Please talk to your sales people or whoever makes these decisions and inform them that a large part of your customer base will leave in December. Your uncapped prices used to be cheapest, but with the wholesale price cut in January, which you didn't pass onto the consumers, you are the most expensive home uncapped providers. Capped wise you are still very good, but with the double promo ending I will sadly move.
