Afrihost POC Network - Afrigreen Feedback

Okay, what the fxck is going on!! No problems with YouTube but come 19:30 it nosedives!! Max 100k on the stream.

Please tell whoever is farking around there in your head office to bugger off. 3 nights now of crappy streaming. Enough is enough!!! :(

Can AfriGuy maybe help me with this, or maybe someone else on the AfriGreen thread:

I haven't been able to test AfriGreen all day, because since this morning my ADSL line seems to be down - well not totally - the lights on the router show that there is some internet activity, and the router log seems to show that a connection is established and then drops.

the concerning part in the Router Log attached is the "Clear IP addresses - PPP Connection Down" that appears straight after the router has confirmed "Connection UP", and then it seems to go in an endless loop after that, trying to reconnect.

I have changed no settings locally since last night when everything was working fine; can anyone here confirm for me whether it is a line fault ? (Refer first attachment)

A second router that I have attached to the primary via Wireless WAN in bridge mode, complains of "LCP DOWN" and "Wait for PADO timeout" in its system logs. (Refer second attachment)

LCP down usually means the backhaul or uplink to the DSLAM/IMAX/MSAN has gone down. Have you tested with another ISP?

You know what really grinds my gears - I can stream from a particular website at 720p which pushes my line to 3,2 mbps but can't get higher than 0,5 mbps on speedtest, google play store updates, youtube streaming etc. Even xone updates have been running decently at 3,1 ~ 3,4 mbps. Been told so many things I don't know which way is north anymore.

Please, for the love of all things good: don't tell me what speeds YOU (ie AH) managed to achieve and that testing was good your side. Because honestly, your awesome results do not help me one bit.

/Rant over

Hi guys

I'll report poor streaming to the guys again this evening, I know we did some work on this last night - and we saw improvements a little before 10pm. The tests I ran last night, seemed to be pulling content down from an international destination.

What annoys me is that I have a 10mbps line and I buffer like crazy on 480p and yet the stream pulls no where near my max line capabilities ...

I disconnect everything else from the network and cannot stream 480p ... that is annoying as all hell

It also doesn't help that you guys are all testing youtube with your godlike lines and the users here don't have that ..

On a 4mbps line we should be able to stream @1080p, I know, I used to do it when I stayed in JHB all the time ... ... You guys tell us that with your 20mbps line that you can stream .. no **** ... really ? ... Doesn't mean jack when you have multiple users here telling you that streaming is borked ...

I cant stream 720p on my 20mbps line.

Even p2p is dead now - which is one of the few things that usually work this time if night. MEH

Please tell me you are joking ? ... ... I stream 1080p while doing updates @ work and we have a 4mbps line

:::EDIT:::

Steam downloading at a wonderful 40KBps

You obviously misunderstand my post, on the Afrigreen network i currently cant stream 720p on my 20mbps line.

Just pointing that out because you thought having a 20mbps line might make people oblivious to the network problems, not the case...

We test in the real world - those are our connections at home.
I have a 10Mbps line, others have a 4Mbps, some have a 2Mbps - all of which gets tested.

Please switch to your regular account to see if the experience is improved.

Streaming is fine on regular Afrihost account and my Telkom account.

Our guys are running some tweaks on this :) We're aware of the issues.
Please switch back to your regular account to see if there's any improvement.

speeds are down the crapper again and browsing has been very jerky most of the day

It's really difficult to work with your posts, electrofreeze, because you don't share any results that I can analyse or pass onto the network team.

I think it's important to remember that this is a POC network, and we need feedback that is specific and as comprehensive as possible to act on. I would really encourage you to support your posts with a speedtest at least, preferably a traceroute as well and possibly specific references to which services you are using which indicate that speeds are down the crapper. Would be supremely helpful to me and I know the whole team here would be grateful :)

Are you guys having issues with facebook ? ... I can't browse it at all, pages just time out ...
