Afrihost POC Network - Afrigreen Feedback

Internet seems sluggish again. Seems to happen every night. The issue isn't maximum line throughput but more of a DNS-delay issue. When clicking on a bookmark for example, Chrome will sit showing a blank screen for a few seconds as if it's trying to resolve DNS and then when it finally does the line speed is used properly. This is evident when loading YouTube, clicking a bookmark for YouTube will sit and take a few second and then when it finally starts loading something, the line is used at full speed.

As said earlier it seems like a DNS taking it's sweet time to resolve. This happens on both Afrigreen DNS and Google's DNS which doesn't make sense. As said above, this only happens in the evening.

Code:
Tracing route to youtube-ui.l.google.com [216.58.223.46]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms home.gateway.home.gateway [192.168.1.254]
  2 * * * Request timed out.
  3 20 ms 18 ms 18 ms ipc-tx-a-access.afrihost.co.za [169.1.1.249]
  4 19 ms 17 ms 17 ms ipc-rx-a-access.afrihost.co.za [169.1.1.250]
  5 19 ms 18 ms 17 ms 41.170.79.236
  6 24 ms 19 ms 19 ms google.jb1.napafrica.net [196.46.25.166]
  7 18 ms 18 ms 18 ms 72.14.239.129
  8 17 ms 17 ms 17 ms jnb01s08-in-f14.1e100.net [216.58.223.46]

Trace complete.

Ran at almost full speed, then 18h00 speed dropped
Happens with me too.

P2P is dead, browsing is sluggish. But YouTube runs at line speed once the video eventually opens.

Latency seems to be bouncing around a bit.

Pretoria east, Equestria. So not sure if the issue comes from AH or the Telkom corps

Same story here in KZN.
I think I need to go and get head read, no cooking clue why I have stuck it out this long.
Come on Afrihost, the POC has been in testing for over three months.
Surely by now it should have zero issues?

Hi hummercellc. Please send me a PM with your username and I'll pass it on to our team.

How much do we trust Edge yet, though? ;)

Only kidding! :) I'm still not completely convinced this is DNS related, but I'll have a chat with our network engineers.

If it helps, I'm now getting "error connection reset". These issues always seem to happen at night. During the day it's completely fine. Very weird.

Have you tried with a different browser yet, too?

Sounds like it may be Telkom related... :( Our network is not THAT specific to region.

Tried Firefox, Waterfox, Chrome, Opera.

On my phone I tried UC Browser, Chrome, Dolphin, Firefox, APUS and the built in browser.

I doubt it is telkom related, my WA and VOX accounts do not have this lag, also, I am in PTA like Francois but there are reports from other users and from friends saying the same thing but from all over the country.

You can confirm this is DNS related if you switch out DNS for Google DNS, etc. I found I was getting this only in Chrome, but other browsers were fine, so maybe test with Firefox (usually very reliable) as well if you can.

I'm not saying it is DNS related. I'm trying to explain it as best as I can. It's like it was trying to find out what it had to load and was taking its time LIKE a delayed DNS or something.

But yeah lets see if this happens tonight, again.

Let's try a few things if it happens for you tonight. I'll also test on my side, or will chat to the rep on duty this evening (think it's AfriFella)

Like now. Turn my PC on and page loading is extremely responsive. A few milliseconds and the page loads up unlike last night and the last few where it would sit for maybe 5 seconds before doing anything.

I was even having issues with my tablet yesterday getting connection errors.
