Afrihost POC Network - Afrigreen Feedback

A few people here used TS on other servers, and it was fine, so I don't think the service was the issue. I do believe there was a DDoS at IS data centre where they host their server, so this may have contributed to intermittent experience.

I've got confirmation that TS traffic is definitely not shaped or de-prioritised on the network.

Not looking good on Afrihost there, Afrigreen seems OK though. What is your line syncing at?

Stats from the router:

Upstream line rate (kbit/s) 635
Downstream line rate (kbit/s) 8191
Upstream maximum line rate (kbit/s) 1164
Downstream maximum line rate (kbit/s) 19676
Upstream noise safety coefficient(SNR) (dB) 17.9
Downstream noise safety coefficient(SNR) (dB) 13.6
Upstream interleave depth 0
Downstream interleave depth 0
Line standard ADSL_2plus
Upstream line attenuation (dB) 12.6
Downstream line attenuation (dB) 27.5

I'm reading this as a 20Mbps line. Are you getting better speeds with another ISP account?

It's a 8mbps line
Upstream line rate (kbit/s) 635 - his actual upstream sync rate
Downstream line rate (kbit/s) 8191 - his actual downstream sync rate
Upstream maximum line rate (kbit/s) 1164 - router's maximum possible upstream rate (according to attenuation/noise etc)
Downstream maximum line rate (kbit/s) 19676 - router's maximum possible downstream rate (according to attenuation/noise etc)

Depends on how the router reports. I know some report max and minimum, so very difficult to distinguish. I prefer reading straight off the exchange because router info can be a little unreliable.

As seen in the Afrigreen test results above

I meant for the line, with other ISP's etc. Depending on the line, some 8Mbps lines will see just over 7Mbps at best. Your SNR seemed pretty healthy though, so I would expect at least 7Mbps on a healthy 8Mbps sync.

Maybe drop me a PM so I can see what Telkom's portal shows for your actual sync with the exchange and go by those stats.

So when are you'll switching over to the new network?

Because over the weekend Afrigreen experience was horrible so I switched to normal Afrihost Business Account. Today Afrihost Business Account speeds are horrible while Afrigreen now having the same issue I was having before when downloading, browsing Facebook, twitter etc images and such don't load and takes forever.

If it's not one thing it's another. Hugely frustrating.

Twitter was fun today and Thanks for the AfriThanks ! :D

But I should probably give some feedback before I go too off-topic.

Afrigreen is working fine on my side. Only issue is in the evenings (around 7 pm), torrents slow down drastically (not really an issue for me). I haven't noticed any issues with regards to browsing, streaming or gaming.

On serious note, just keeping everyone up to date with what is happening on this side. As I mentioned, official communications are going to be sent out this week with more specific dates in terms of the production version of AfriGreen going live, cutover from our MTN production network, etc. That should be within the next day or so at the most :)

When I login with Afrigreen I still get blocked from the backend of my website (not hosted with Afrihost) as it is seen as a US ip address.
I can't allow the US in IQ block country as we get a lot of guys trying to sign in from the US.

Will you still have the old network available? Or is there another solution?

We're in the process of building the network. When we have a better timeframe and updates - we'll communicate them here.
