Afrihost Pure DSL

I thought pure dsl is a totally separate line hence they would install a new line..?
Maybe he did install a new line just used the existing pairs of copper in the existing line.
All he did was temporarily install a feedback device on my end, and then do whatever voodoo he did on the exchange side for 45min, as far as I know. I pitched when he arrived to make sure everyone was on the same page but had to go back to work.

I don't think he did anything to the physical cable, maybe they did a few changes to methodology for the sake of expediency.

Got home and no internet, have on clientzone through phone it says "pending". Have received no new login details..... miscommunication between afrihost and openserve? @cavedog PM incomming

Got it responded.

Just a quick note. Openserve call naked dsl Pure connect. Currently there is no options for migrating from DSL attached to a Telkom voice line to Pure Connect. Pure DSL order that are placed on our website as new installs will be placed as Naked DSL installs.

Pure DSL is also available for clients that use their landline. In this case we will just migrate the existing line from the holding pool or provide adsl on the existing landline.

Good news. Technician arrived this morning at 11am. Thanks to Cavedog for escalating the installation to an Openserve manager

Got hold of the technician who will be doing my installation. The man is ready to go, waiting on an order number from OpenServe, very frustrating.

Lunch time I took a drive down the street, looking for an Openserve techie who'll be able to shed light on my installation date...

I did not find an Openserve techie, however I saw quite a big group of workers up the street. Drove up to them, made enquiries on what is going on, just to find out it is Vumatel which started with trenching, and hoping to be finished in two months time...
What to do....?
Cancel the VDSL order, and carry on with the capped LTE running at near fibre speeds (downloads after midnight running at 100 megs, and general daytime speeds are 20-50 megs) for the next 2 or 3 months, or
Drop down to 20 meg VDSL (most likely closer to 10) for the next few months...?

So yesterday they completed the installation. Yes, it was the 14th working day *upside down smiley*.
Once the line was installed it was syncing below 3meg. He wanted to leave it but I insisted that on my old line I get +-5meg but the speed keeps at 4meg. He agreed to go check out the box and switch ports or something. He left and about an hour later called to say that the line is syncing at 4meg and maybe it will be bumped to 5meg coz the attainable rate is about +-8meg. Nice like that. I am happy.

I plugged the details in from clientzone and it's working fine so far although it still says pending lol. Netflix smooth, everything loads briskly for a 4 meg. Next in line is fibre, but for now I'm satisfied.

Great big shout out to @cavedog for his continual and persistent help. Remember people, Openserve is the bottleneck here, not Afrihost. Stick with it if they're taking long, it will be worth the wait

Eish...Ive got adsl so that cant be their excuse for me. my order was cancelled by openserve with no explanation and waiting for the reason why for more than a week...

Okay so after having a rethink I thought to myself maybe just cancel my order as it's going nowhere and maybe just wait for the vumareach fibre to complete their rollout in our area.

So after cavedog trying assist I let him know I want to cancel. The feedback from openserve on why my order wasnt completed in the first place is because of stolen cables?? Is that now even possible if I have adsl currently??? Someone please explain that to me...

My take is telkom were kind of forced into providing this product as part of their competition commission settlement. They really dont give crap. Hence them really coming up with any excuse under the sun not to install lines or offer their current customers value they are dishing out to new customers only.

I'm going to dance around the tree in my back yard the day I'm rid of telkom..

How they are still managing to stay afloat is beyond me...

That excuse has already worked. Think about it. By the way, I bet it was either @Valentine Steenkamp or @nad_isa or @mathebus who finally snapped ... and then snapped the cables in retribution.
Openserve thought the cables were stolen ... but they were unaware of your retribution drive.

Congrats, you played yourself. ;)

Telkom and Openserve are 2 different companies. Naked ADSL is provided by Openserve, not Telkom.

And openserve is a division of telkom group...

I currently have adsl through telkom as the isp. I wanted to move to naked adsl through telkom but was told the new packages are only for new customers. So decided to jump to afrihost puredsl.

The feedback from openserve is they cannot provide service as cables are stolen. How can they not provide service if I currently have adsl.

I see openserve as a division of telkom. Hence my comments.

This was their feedback to me too. So I told them I'll wait till they fix the cabling. I don't stay in an area with high cable theft. So now I got feedback they will do the installation cause the cables were fixed. I've been waiting since 13th June.

Hey peeps - hoping for the same help elriconess got? I applied for pure dsl on 15 June (have 10mbps dsl through Afrihost already) and sent in a request to cancel my telkom voice line on 24 June (upon confirmation from Afrihost support that it would be safe to do so).

I'm still waiting for Openserve to come do their thing and have tried escalating with Afrihost support without having any luck. Now I'm worried my Telkom line will be disabled before the pure dsl order is completed (received an email saying that my cancellation is now in progress) and I need my internet for work.

@cavedog - are you able to assist me too? Thank you :)

Hi,

Yes I can help you drop me a message with your clientzone details let me see what the order status is on the Openserve portal.

So my Pure DSL has been active for over a week now, but even though it's working perfectly and I was able to get my PPPOE authentication details from Afrihost it still shows as "Pending Order" in my Afrihost clientzone and Afrihost hasn't billed me at all yet. I'm not complaining, but I'm just interested know how many of you who have also had your Pure DSL successfully installed also still have it showing as "Pending Order" in your clientzone? Apparently it's because Openserve still have the order open on their side even though it was completed over a week ago.

Hi there

I had exactly the same issue. Just ask @AfriFella @AfriGuy @cavedog to assist. Took about 3 days but then I got billed and the "Pending Order" status changed to "Active"
