Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread Part 2

Alrighty.
What's the best way to trouble shoot what's causing the random disconnects (not too frequent) the big ones were Friday and Saturday evening. Friday net went down for a couple of hours, Saturday same thing. Probably linked to that OLT outage you mentioned, then theres seems to be some sort of temporary disconnect that happens in a similar fashion, receive a DNS error and net dies :)

Hi.

Reference 8BWK270723. It is an area outage.

If this was logged at 1am, why does Afrihost not know about it at 4:30 when I logged my ticket? I got asked to restart, etc.with no ref to the area issue until almost 7am?

Not uncommon for support guys to "not go that extra mile". Not ideal, totally with you and it doesn't help people who are not privy to this forum but it's been like that for decades, Cool Ideas suffers the same problem and unless you know about their thread where plenty more deets are shared, you SOL till you get a knowledgeable or willing person to go the extra mile support person.

Also, the majority of the support guys are just trying to clean the basic troubleshooting first.

So what should I state in my request in future to avoid being held captive by these basic troubleshooters?

I am sorry about that, unfortunately Openserve does not send us official notices of outages. We have to search for the related outages using the line number.

Personally I cover what they would typically ask.

Doing a test directly to the ONT.

having some PingPlotters on hand for an extended period of time.

And general troubleshooting. Ie supplying games server IP ect.

But then again we might as well come here and like above message these guys

We are aware of the ongoing packet loss and slow speeds between our DUR <> JHb cores. We have an ongoing escalation with regard to this issue. Currently only affecting DUR <> JHB traffic in the evenings between 18:00 to 21:00. Most traffic is coming from our Durban-based caches and international is breaking out directly from Durban.

Thanks that's good to know.
I can however confirm that it's just happened again and the nets been dead for about 5 minutes so far.

Exact same scenario as before.
Get a weird dns error when browsing.

Did the complete the network change?

I never use ISP DNS, always 9.9.9.9 and 1.1.1.2

Same issue. Vuma JHB. Seems we always have the same problems. Man I thought it was too good to be true. Getting stable internet just doesn't seem to be available these days.

Yeah so this was a daily (multiple times a day) issue on coolideas. I moved to afrihost on a 100mb service and was sitting pretty for a month. Then upgraded to a 500mb service instead and ever since then I'm getting these disconnects.

On coolideas I had a 1gb connection too.

@AfriNatic can these issues be linked to line speed or something? Rather just have a 100mb line if it works.

I kept my line speed the same. This only started happening recently.
