Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread Part 2

yet to break as it bypasses that canyon? Not sure why it costs more, surely competition is wild with all these cables?

The old cables have already paid for themselves - maybe?

Murphy is Cnut, and someone will lose a sea anchor, or container, and it will fall on the newer cable.

Contracts are in place so Echotel will have contracts that say they subscribed to use capacity of X from their provider where they would of had to purchase capacity on Equiano which might be on like a month to month where WACs is on a 5 year type of deal.

Equiano and 2AFrica apparently both have placed their cables positions in slightly better positions where they less likely to get damaged. Equiano also has 12 fibre pairs and each one has more capacity as WACs so moving over to that cable system if you could would make more sense as their is higher capacity and thus higher backup as well.

Equiano also just came online just before the cable break WIOCC handed CISP apparently a VLAN to test and they themselves (WIOCC) have been doing testing themselves for a while so this whole incident is the perfect launch for Equiano... I would imagine that the capacity being so much more than WACs and SAT-3 that costs to use it would be lower but who knows only those who are taking contracts and that out i suppose.

Hi @Afrigirl @AfriNatic if either of you are around, I’d be grateful for any feedback on ref ISP-1289522.

This is the status of the ticket.

Thanks. Doesn’t sound particularly promising. Back online by Friday maybe.

Where else does this express route go?

Liquid Telecoms uses a Tier 1 ISP Cogent from Lisbon to each other areas. JHB to Madrid for example is at 158ms. It depends on the AS hops. Unfortunately, the JHB to Marseille is still the shortest path for most of Europe.

Anyone else struggling to get into mw2 servers since the Fibre breaks? Keep getting "Timed out waiting for achievements" or "Times out waiting for datacenters"

That's been a thing since before the cable breaks, just a LOT worse now.

FIFA is unplayable since the cable break (local servers afaik but the game keeps querying AWS servers overseas to check your presence or something). Games disconnect randomly if your connection to said AWS drops.

WARP makes no difference, not sure what else to try.

Tends to drop less after 11 pm at night.

Can someone using Afrihost from CPT please run a tracert/pingplotter /winmtr to 37.244.28.102 . I am currently on mweb, but cancelled and looking for a
new ISP at the end of the month.

I get 180 from JHB so Cape Town should be 160

It also impacts Heartstone on mobile for example and so far the only fix is using a VPN or Warp. I wonder if it's a problem with the Auth server.

Traced the issue to these IPs owned by Demonware which run blizzard and activation authentication servers.

185.34.106.26
185.34.106.18
185.34.107.128

I have reached out to them as it looks like we are either getting blocked or rate limited.

I don’t think we are getting blocked (last night 18:30 I couldn’t retrieve my profile but otherwise it just takes long to fetch the profile)
I also doubt rate limiting because how many people play games on Monday morning to trigger a limiter?

Why does a VPN/Warp solve the problem?

Thanks for checking. I used to get 150ms with mweb, but now only get 155 when using warp .. and 200 without warp.
yup mweb/octotel same shii thankfully im moving to afri this sunday cant deal with mweb anymore

Thanks for looking into it, during the day it's fine, but from 6pm onwards it takes an hour to connect to the server get my level. I can't play ranked if my level hasn't been fetched
