Content serving on steam's store definitely degraded. https://shared.fastly.steamstatic.com

Downloads seem ok now so maybe that was just a hiccup. I've had intermittent issues with youtube, but nothing like as bad.

All devices on my network having issues with steam, and when I switch to telkom mobile the problem goes away, so... definitely seems connection related.

Change your Steam download region and see if anything changes. I have had poor performance before from a CT location and when i switched to JHB it downloaded full speed.

Sadly no dice, tried both Capetown and Joburg, both are loading the store pages slowly.

Please try going back to Google DNS, because the Steam traffic is being served from our Akamai caches. And advise if you see any difference. @Rayne @Razotter

See. Right now. I'm trying to do endgame here and the game pausing me every 20 seconds. If I disable the pause setting that means I'll be dead and my map, which is hard to come by, wasted.

This is getting worse.

Please speak to your engineers to find out what the issue is with Steam in KZN. Whatever they did or happened since around 8pm last night they need to fix or undo and if it is you guys testing throttling then please tell me so now so that I can cancel instead of wasting my time. Steam is where I draw the line.

Everything else is fine. Youtube is fine. Reddit is fine. It is Steam traffic and Steam alone.

I did speak to the NOC team.
We are not throttling, and we currently don't have an Akamai cache in KZN.
Checked monitoring to Fastly and there are no issues picked up between JHB<>KZN

The only additional troubleshooting step I can suggest is performing a packet capture (PCAP) while you are experiencing the issue on Steam.

This would allow us to see exactly which server Steam is communicating with, whether the traffic is reaching its destination, and if not, where the communication is failing. It will also help determine whether the issue lies with the traffic reaching the server or with the response traffic not making it back to your connection.

Yeah I don't know how to do that I'm a broker not a network engineer and even if I did how am I supposed to do in an always online Steam game that paused me for 2 seconds every 20 seconds @Afrigirl

You are not cooperating at all. That time you brought the issue here.

I am also already using google DNS. And turning on cloudflare warp causes the problem to disappear, so seems to be routing.

The NOC engineer on shift has tested and they are not picking up any issues.

With cloudflare, its less than 1sec.

I grant that's not much, but because steam storefront loads all images simultaneously you get a compounded slowness.

I will say, its better than it was. Last night images just refused to load. Now it seems they are loading, but much slower than they should on my connection.
