Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread Part 2

Just to note: make sure you're accessing a steam page you haven't accessed before. Steam caches loaded images so pages you've hit before load quickly, while new pages show the slow image loading issue.

You can load https://store.steampowered.com/ in an incognito browser session to side-step cache.

Not to give them an out, but I have the issue on a non-Afrihost connection right now, in CPT.
By issue, I mean it takes a few seconds for the page to load. Oh the humanity!

Browser tools show it took around 4000ms to load a single tile, like this one:

And loading each one took an age, I gave up after 2 minutes of waiting for the page to load fully.

Not saying there isn't an issue somewhere, especially with the other dude dropping from POE, but the Steam store CDN being slow isnt the issue we're looking for, and I believe the CDN for the web page and downloads aren't the same either.

Aren't 99.97% of cases ISP DNS related?
Like? Sure some ISPs don't manage them well, and their engineers sniff it to spy on you, but otherwise, it'll best direct you to CDNs etc that they can inject and control, which could give you a better experience.

Hi,

That is not entirely correct. With Openserve, only the static IP service is subject to CGNAT.

For Openserve, we assign a NATed static IP address. The public-facing IP remains static and will never change. However, the IP address assigned to your router's WAN interface will be a private 10.x.x.x address and may change each time the PPPoE session reconnects.

All traffic destined for your static public IP (169.x.x.x) is forwarded to the private WAN IP currently assigned to your router. As a result, there are no restrictions on incoming traffic, and no ports are blocked due to the NAT configuration.

In short, you will not see the static 169.x.x.x IP address on your router's WAN interface. Instead, you will see a 10.x.x.x address, while the public IP remains fixed and reachable from the internet.

Please let me know what assistance you require.
Hi Afrigirl
thank you for the answer
can you maybe look at request [#QIC-648-99955] to guide support?
I want to order a new line , but having incoming ports available needs to be confirmed.

Down in Milnerton since around 9am, is it a frogfoot issue again?

Hi,

Hi Afrihost,

I have had random line disconnects the past 2 weeks. I have contacted support 5 times, done the usual basic "reboot everything" 5 times. Eventually, a fault was reported to Metro Fiber, but they went ahead and closed it because there was nothing wrong with the line, apparently. My line has been super solid for nearly a year. Effectively, my line works 99% of the time, but then randomly drops for 1-5min, then returns. At times, I'll experience extremely high ping (5000ms) just before it completely drops.

One of your consultants mentioned the below earlier this week:

"Okay one of my findings is that there are no Optical Signal Level (dBm), which that alone shows that the line might be down and I will have to escalate it". A fault was logged with ticket number: #1423847, which was subsequently closed by metro.

This issue is ongoing, and have reached out to support yet again today and they now have logged a new ticket:
FTTX664563 : Link Dowwn
#1431187

Please could you assist in getting this issue sorted? This has been affecting my online work calls, as well as the usual online gaming experience.
