Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread Part 2

Not getting this and using DHCP dns from Afrihost

Hello 165.Xxx, your DNS server used IP 169.1.3.10
From zaisd1-edge-bx-003
a 5MB object took 264ms, averaging 151.52Mb/s

DNS on router 169.1.1.4 & 169.1.1.2

Phone set to get DNS from router

I'm not on AF but getting the same.
what I can figure.
ZA = ZA
ISD = Isando

So assuming there is an edge box now at Teraco.
Not sure if an Apple operated one or AF one serving other users via NAP.

Downgraded my line last month. Internet stopped working at 12 this morning. Had to request a line reactivation because they swapped my package from Aerial to Tactical, now I just receive emails that the activation has failed... Support told me that the lines do not match up, Afrihost and Vuma both have 2 different packages assigned to my account. Weekend without internet, maybe even a week? Who knows at this point.... Afrihost/Vumatel. Worst combo known to man. @AfriNatic

Doubt it’s an AF one since soul assassin has the address for the Afrihost one

That’s new , think before it was served via Akamai CDN

Oddly don’t have much issues with Apple services more Amazon prime which cannot maintain HD but Netflix is 4K instantly

Wonder how traffic for Amazon is handled

@cavedog Congrats E and well done. The parts finally came.

Wonder how long the cache took to fill up before serving clients. Can only imagine the storage required.

Thanks a lot for this. Appreciate it.

I’m assuming this will handle all stuff from Apple? AppleTV+ content. The stores etc ?

afrihost-zajnb1a-fe-001.ec.edge.apple
a 5MB object took 275ms, averaging 145.45Mb/s

Should be sorted in the next day or so. There is a 48 hour waiting period before the cache will serve newly announced prefixes.

Durban and Cape Town will be sorted then. Also make sure if you use a 3rd party dns provider to use the eDNS option so that your subnet is still sent or you will not get the cache.

Hey, if you guys are gaming with Afrihost from KZN locally there is a issue with routing to JHB mainly in the late afternoons evenings.

Apparently its NLD issue that has not been sorted out for a month now.

For some reason this happens

50 ping lower speeds to JHB instead of 12-15 ping full speeds.

And for some reason to valorant Cape Town servers its also causing 90 ping instead of 35 ping.

Hi.
Our Vendor that we use for the NLD between DBN and JNB has capacity constraints which should be upgraded by next week Monday. We apologise for the inconvenience caused; we have been working to resolve this as soon as possible.
