Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread Part 2

What's going on here, @AfriMan, are you guys shaping/throttling Netflix traffic?

It's buffering like crazy and not even going to FHD quality!

they dont shape netflix but rely so heavily on their local cache that if you pull something not on the cache they dont have the transit to serve it without shitting the bed because theyre network is the most budget available

OK, so it wasn't Afrihost, because my phone was streaming at full 4K without any issues.

I thought a reinstall of the app on my TV would cure it, but when I went to install again, the app was not in the LG Content store anymore, which was very strange.

I eventually found that at some point last week, my TV did a software update, and changed the region from ZA to Other.

Once I had set it back to ZA, the Netflix app was back in the LG Content store, and once installed it was streaming full blast as before.

then yes it was Afrihost. sounds like your TV was pulling from another region which means not using the local cache thus suffering. on another ISP you probably would not have noticed no matter where you pull from

I'm supposed to be on a 400Mbps package and yet this is what I constantly have to deal with; download speeds that randomly tank while upload remains perfectly fine and connection time outs that prevent me from being able to play online with my friends.
Currently experiencing the exact same here in Stellenbosch...

Same thing from my side in Pretoria,
Really annoying every night between 19:00 and around 22:00.
Running through MetroFibre. My Brother lives 2 blocks from me, and is also on Metrofibre, just using Mweb, and he never gets this issue
Hi Afrigirl,

Seems like the same problems from last year has shown up again,
Since beginning of this week Every night at around 19:00 my internet speeds craps its pants...
I am lucky if I get 5mbps...

Last time you guys sorted it out quickly, please can you assist again?

Thanks

Afrigirl is still off

logged a ticket last night, and mentioned that many ppl on FF are seeing the same issues:

"Thank you for contacting Afrihost.

Apologies for any inconvenience that you may have experienced.

Please be informed that we have been getting a great number of complaints regarding low download speeds and high latency, on the Frogfoot network in Cape Town.

Kindly note that I have informed our technical team to further investigate.

Please bear with us."

I've recinded my fibre application that has been sitting since November last year. Cya.

7:30am this morning Atomic Access got me up and running. Meanwhile Afrihost is still sitting on their asses. Good riddance.

Anyone else having issues on Frogfoot stellenbosch.

Basically went to poop around 7pm'ish. Basically the same as last weekend Sunday.

Same here on Metrofibre...
And I'm in north of Pretoria, every night between 19:00 and 22:00... unuseable
