Afrihost - Pure Fibre Feedback Thread Part 2

Any feedback @AfriNatic ? Sites like Takealot simply only partially loads now and again.
I'm resorting to Vodacom once again. This is really frustrating.

I can order a lamp, but not do much of anything else...

Something is up - Local connectivity is fine, international is all over the place: most sites work, Spotify is down, international upload is 1/20th of what it should be, in-game latency (Path of Exile) is in the several seconds (vs what it should be, which is ~27ms)...

@AfriNatic

Why is my Ookla speed test app showing a slower download speed than the speed test website? The speed test app always used to give the same results. It is very confusing as you think you have a slow connection with the wrong results from the Speedtest App. I am using the same host so that is not the problem.

All,

Just an FYI.
I've been unable to use my pure fibre internet since Metrofibre updated their line on the 1st of March.

After all the up and down and useless service from Afrihost, (telling me that my setup, that used to work, was never supposed to work and they don't know why it was actually working before?!) we decided to cancel our internet on the 18th of March and move to another provider.

Now here's the FYI part. Afrihost will hold your line ransom for a whole calendar month! So if you thinking of cancelling, do it as close to the end of the month as possible otherwise you are going to be stuck like me without internet for 2 month, because the other provider can't get any access to the line.

To think I have been with Afrihost for more than 10 years. And they probably are still going to charge me for their "service" for March and April!

Please think carefully before taking any of their "month-to-month" services.

I see you didn't ask for support on this forum either?
Afrihost don't hold you ransom for a whole calendar month, your FNO does, they set the terms
Your issues you are having are probably your FNO, which is the case 90% of the time.
If you raised your issue with either @AfriNatic or @Afrigirl your issues probably would of been resolved within 2 days

I had various discussions with them via PM. (Also why I didn't post in this forum)

Afrihost is my service provider, so I deal with them. Always easy to pass the buck to the other guys I suppose.

And as you can see in this thread it is not only me that have problems with Afrihost's service.

Also, I spoke to Metrofibre and they told me they can't do anything on the line as Afrihost doesn't want to release it. So not sure what you are on about regarding the FNO setting the terms?

While I live in the UK, my Plex server lives in South Africa and is actively used by my family. I maintain it religiously and get good use out of the Afrihost line its connected to.
I still pay for the Openserve fibre line that is at my gran's place and she never has issues. That line has been in for about 8 years now, with only a weeks outage when someone cut the fibre during some construction. Openserve and Afrihost has served me well and they continue to serve me well.

When I have had issues I engaged with support, tore my hair out because T1 guys work from a script and sometimes I have a few steps ahead of them but when needed I have spoken to the AH Reps on MyBB and they have gotten the issues resolved fairly quickly.
I find people are too quick to blame support when they themselves are usually not providing the information in the manner in which the support guys need it. In my position I provide level 3 support and I will throw a ticket buy to the level 1 guys if it lacks the information I need to resolve the issue because I simply don't have time to do the grunt work that I need them to do. This is why it is vital to give the AH support guys all the info they could possibly want (even when it feels like you are repeating yourself).

DSTV for most of the day and whatever internet browsing an 85 year old woman may want to do.
That 50/25 fibre line is idling, but its reliable and the only time my gran complains is when the DSTV app is up to its usual antics.

Afrihost is renting the line from MetroFibre, so somebody they don't deal with asks them to release the line. You think they going to do it? They can't have anybody else requesting the release of a line besides the person that is renting it. Which is Afrihost.

Every ISP has issues, why you acting like Afrihost is the only ISP with issues. They were the only ISP that never had downtime or big issues when the cables went down.

Please also read Afrihosts Terms and Conditions, 5.3 to be exact. You signed the agreement, you can't complain, you accepted the terms: https://www.afrihost.com/terms-and-conditions/fibre

Hey @AfriNatic @Afrigirl, something major is up with my connectivity. My line in Cape Town has been super unstable all day with high latency, packet loss and general instability, and it has only gotten worse as the day has progressed. Please see the following ping tests to EU servers:

Please advise what the issues are. Thanks!

It is still totally borked. :/
So, I spent an hour trying to get through telephonically yesterday, and I am on hold again now. I've usually found Afrihost's support to be pretty good, but this is not a great response at all.

*edit*

Phone is still ringing, Whatsapp support is going nowhere, and I've had issues since (Sunday?)...
