Are you connected with wifi perhaps?

The jitter is a bit high but I don't see any losses that would explain the slow throughput. What is the throughput like on local speedtest servers and speedtest servers in JHB vs CPT servers?

Indeed, but I tested on ethernet which was also patchy. FWIW, just got off a google meets call and had occasional spiking with a connection delay up to 1500ms - 2500ms spikes.

The main TV which suffers the most is connected via ethernet and I've already tested it with 4 different ethernet cables.

The postmeridian dropoff is driving me nuts...

Okay great. There might be some loss or buffer issue.

Can you try running the below command as administrator and restarting your pc to see if that helps at all.

netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal

Thanks for the swift response, two questions:

(a) have you got a macOS equivalent command?
(b) would this sort out the issues across devices i.e. the actual network we're connected to?

If you are using a Mac it's unlikely a TCP issue then.

Unlikely. We are still seeing good latency all round and well below our transit capacity.

Not sure if this is related to the issue @iamkiko is experiencing. Since this week I've noticed poor connectivity to Germany in particular. Streaming with Plex from my VPS in Nuremberg results in lots of buffering and general poor performance, which wasn't the case last week. I've done speed tests, and there's something strange going on with international connectivity. Local speed test servers give me full line speed, but most of my single-connection tests to Nuremberg give a max of 30mbit/s. What's more concerning is the slow ramp up in speed, starting at sub-1mbit/s for a few seconds, then slowly ramping up to the 'steady state' speed.

I've attached 2 screenshots for reference. They were both done from the same place in my house, with the same device, at roughly the same time. Note the extremely slow speed ramp up on the Nuremberg test, compared to the Gaborone one

Have you tried doing a speedtest on other devices to see if the issue still persist?

Random Question regarding Openserve Aerial Fibre.

So we need to get a giant tree cut off at home in the coming weeks.

The tree-feller who came to give us a quote said it's almost guaranteed that the fibre cable will break as it's running underneath the tree.

What's the best way to deal with it and minimise potential downtime?

It's unlikely that Openserve will assist before the line is down. That said they may charge a fee if a new drop cable would be required to be installed so that is something to consider also.

I'm going to hop on the bandwagon and say I've been having international issues as well, but to central Europe. Speeds, latency and packet loss are fine but I get buffering and slow load times on websites mainly in Switzerland. Frustrating when designing a website and the page takes minutes to load or times out. Anything to improve or diagnose it?

It seems to be central Europe for me personally. But everything appears fine so I'm not sure. @AfriNatic is there something I can do? Speeds appear fine, latency is fine (especially while gaming), and there is no packet loss to any servers I've tested in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

Edit:speed tests actually vary... sometimes expected 25meg speed other times it's dropping to 2-4 meg

The line... it's showing fairly slow speeds on speed tests as well as downloads ... it's very intermittent though... will be fine for an hour then get slow for the next and rotates like that
